so i recently ordered an rns-e from kuko off ebay (heard good things about him) and i was on audiforums.us researching some stuff and came across this thread.

http://audiforum.us/cables-adapters-antennas/6292-converting-symphony-ii-antenna-system-use-rns-e.html

basically what i got out of this thread was that if i dont buy this adapter the radio reception is shitty. Is this true? Do i need to buy this adapter too!!??

I did the symphony II to RNS-E a long time ago, and all I needed was the plug and play adapter. It had to be vag-com'd in order for the car to talk to the unit (I believe), and I ran the satellite antenna behind the instrument cluster. My reception has been fine.

I dont think you need whatever they are talking about in the other thread (I didn't read through it too thoroughly) but I do know that those guys at audiworld know their RNS-E stuff. Maybe try posting this in the telematics forum as well. Hope this helps.

thanks!! As far as vag coming the unit, from the installation all it says it is plug n play. The only part i understand that needs to be vag comed is bluetooth, sat radio, etc, DIS display etc... if i just want the navi and have use of the steering wheel controls isnt it just plug n play as long as i swap the wire over from neverfollow's write up?

Yes. However, if you want the directions to show up on the DIS you need to code it. Enjoy your RNS-E (I love mine)

I'm looking into doing this swap in my g/f car.

So do I need a harness adapter or does the RNS-E just plug into the existing ones?

All you need is to move the K-line (if you have Bose you'll need to move the Bose wire too). I have a word file with instructions and pictures if you need it. I copied it off someone else's DIY to do it for my car. PM me your email and I'll send it to you.
