ok so i slammed into a curb new years eve morning on my way to breakfast and i damaged my front left wheel and suspension. I just got it to Audi of Smithtown yesterday and there estimate was 7000 dollars for parts and labor. they said that everyting that could have broken did. do you think i could get a better price if i went to a private mechanic and if i bought used parts? thanks in advance for any help

Insurance, file a claim, pay the deductible and get your car back.

Yes.

And do you know what all was damaged? It would make it easier if you had a list of the broken parts

BTW if you want to lower now is the time haha

Yes, you can save money with used parts and a good mechanic. However, for that much money it sounds like you have a ton of front end damage. Don't know for sure until you post up what is damaged. Anyway, with that much damage I would pay the deductible, eat the insurance hike, and let Audi fix it right. IMO, unless you have an outstanding mechanic who knows exactly what he is doing, you will never get the car to ride right trying to piece it together with used parts. Good luck.

Yup, that's what I would do. Make's no sense to pay out of pocket for that much damage to get used parts. Good luck with the repairs.

I'd def consider talking to my insurance company that's a lot of money to have to come outta pocket for something. not to mention that going to the deal on anything major such as what happened to your car is always gonna cost you a arm and a leg

getting it fixed at the stealer! Nice.

They will just fob it off to a body shop and laugh at you with the margin they are going to make.

Go find a body shop.

Go find a body shop. he does not need a body shop, he needs a good, indy mechanic.

for the record...

audi of smithtown quoted me $1700 to install an oem sports suspension on my a4.

when i bought my car there, i told them i planned to install a sports suspension on the car i was buying and got them to agree to install it for me for free, if i bought the parts myself.

i came back shortly after i bought the car...they denied ever having agreed to this...and quoted me $1700...that's seventeen-HUNDRED-dollars...to install the sports suspension.

should you look elsewhere for a quote...

maybe...

yeah they are seeing an 18 year old kid and are trying to take full advantage. 7 grand worth of work to one corner of the car is pretty insane unless you bent the frame. Good luck! and let us know what the list is ASAP!!

I slid into a curb New Year's also, Both passenger wheels had the same shit broken that you mentioned, tie rods, bearings etc. They quoted 3000 at first then agreed to 2300. After they fixed that it was still fucked, they realized it was the steering rack that was bent. 1700 more, tomorrow I'll be picking up my car after 4000. Sometimes you gotta bite the bullet.

Oh, and just got a ticket going 91 in a 55 tonight, so fuck my life again.

You can buy new parts and go to an independent shop and still save a lot of money. Remember that the dealer is using book time as their estimate and their labor rate is ~$30/hour than most independents, plus the parts costs have a higher margin.

A quick question, did you have to prop the foundation in your garage to accommodate a lift or it was already solid to hold such a construction?

Insurance, file a claim, pay the deductible and get your car back.

what he said, but your insurance rates will go up, but hopefully not that much more.

Be careful though, insurance company will probably list this as an accident and it'll stay on your record for 3 years.
