Ever do anything stupid when you were younger? Well, yesterday was my turn. I wasn't paying enough attention and backed my car into a square cement piling in a parking garage. I was in reverse with a lite break cover (tip) and just hooked over into the pile in such a way that caused
quite a bit of damage. The car has only been on the road for three months[headbang] I bought in Nov with 79 miles never titled 2008 brand new. Now get this shit a little irony.. My first car 92' audi 100 avant got backed into in my drive way by some tool in his mommy's suburban. Same spot same effin damage[mad] his insurance called it a total loss(92') and gave me $1400. Anyway I'm not going to my insurance because I'm 20 yro and will probably get raped. So I'm going to take this project on myself I just have to suck it up and drop some cash on a new bumper/ possibly a whole new quarter panel. I've done bodywork/fairing/painting on the last yacht I worked on so I'm optimistic and ready to get started. No mommy and daddy didn't buy the car for me or give me money I work for my money.

your bumper doesn't look too bad. you might be able to just repaint it. but that rear quarter will be a bitch. good luck

Feel horrible for ya. This type of stuff happens to most of us so dont feel bad. At least you didnt reverse into oncoming traffic and seriously get messed up. I would however try to get some estimates from local body shops in your area. If they are not way too expensive I would wait and save up and have a professional do it. I am only saying this cause your car is basically a new car. Besides its not like you are in the northeast in winter where your car will rust like anything in just one week with exposed metal.

i got a ticket for driving in the hov lane today...by myself.

of course, i drive 70 miles, 3 hours...two times a day to and from work...so the hov lane is my left lane, and i decided a long time ago that paying a ticket every few months is so worth it it's not even funny. try driving 3 hours after you get off work every day, and see how tolerant you are of being stuck in traffic when everyone in the hov lane is flying.

anyway, sucks about the car. i have done so many dumb things in my cars it's ridiculous, but most of the time, the car, and i, come out of unscathed.

sounds like you have some relevant experience, so hopefully you'll get this done yourself.

Had something somewhat similar happen to me last year. I got the rear bumper from www.genuinevwaudiparts.com and followed this write up, http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=218037&highlight=rear+bumper+removal to install it. Ended up getting it done for pretty cheap. Good luck with the the fix.[wrench]

Sorry man. Bumper looks repairable and the quarter needs to be pulled but hopefully shouldn't set you back too much since you're paying out of pocket. Def get it checked (to make sure you didn't bend anything under the quarter). You'll also need a good paint shop to blend the color plus one rear reflector. Good luck on the repairs.

i don't see the irony, but man, that sucks. did you take it anywhere to at least get it looked at?

Cheemn - Your right. If I find that I cannot fix then ill have a body shop replace the whole panel. If that's the case by that point the car will already disassembled and bumper in hand and ill take it to the body shop. Enough with that I think I am capable and I will take my time and do it right. I'm not just going to slap some bondo on there and call it a day and none of that orange peel bs either. I will update this thread with my progress.
Now the first list of problems before I get started. I live on a yacht(work) soo I do not have a drive way to do this just yet. I have some options neither of them are ideal but are available. I do not have the dent puller tools I have to buy them. Everything I need to paint is an hour away from where I live. Minor bumps in the road but I'm look forward to getting started. I've got my shopping list now time to order. I've been wanting a project I just wish it wasn't this. Also I would rather be saving this money or buying one those lift removal kits.. (C/O's and rotiform blqs)

Thats to give + rep to who ya like and dont + rep who ya dont like......LOLOLOL. Its actually something ya do for when someone actually gives some helpful advice. Ask around though in case ya get into any trouble. Look for the 4 ring guys with lots of green dots! ;-) Everyone on Audizine is very helpful. I learned a lot about my car from here. And yeah......stop making me jealous of ya living on a yacht, with clear blue waters and nice warm weather.

dude, not as bad as mine. I tried to go off-roading in my old durango from giving into peer pressure. got stuck in 7 inches of ice, then al ost got busted for speeding when I wasnt and got away. and then my mind was sooooo gone after 8 hrs of worry that i drove off with a gas pump in the car at a gas station......hows that for a stupid mistake, and shitty day.

i had that same damage except it wasn't as deep and it was a hit and run (i did not find out who hit and ran), was quoted 1200 from a reputable body shop, but it was all body work, they didn't replace anything, that rear quarter panel looks fucked though, you will probably need a new one. and im young too, 17, and I pay for all my shit :)

Ouch, I can relate. About 10 years ago I backed right into the rear quarter panel of my roommate's 240SX when backing out of the driveway early one morning before I was really awake. Caused about the same damage to his car that you got there. Only cost $600 to fix his car, but I didn't have the cash so had to put it on insurance. That was dumb.

Dude if that's the worst thing thats happened to you you're doing pretty dam well for yourself. Seriously, glad you're ok after it. Sounds like it could be a decent project. Keep in mind though, most insurance companies offer some form of accident forgiveness these days, so insurance may not be a bad option considering the cost of what that project is going to be--even by yourself i'd say upwards of a few thousand after paint.

^Most insurance companies I believe they don't honor the accident forgiveness type thing unless the driver is at least 21 so I don't think that would really work. And that sucks dude, but good luck with the project.

if it makes you feel any better... i backed into a cement pylon yesterday too in a parking garage.. ive never done anything like this before.. felt like such an idiot... damage wasn't AS bad as i thought (thought the trunk was gonna be smashed). i actually put a nice dent and crumbed the cement a bit [up]

can't go thru insurance either because i just totaled my gti a couple months ago / pending dui on the crash too [down]... good times.

Forget the bumper. It is easily repairable! The other thing is the pain in the @ss!It needs stripping the whole part out and do some real work on it!

Ouch man. I backed my B5 a4 into a steel pole but only hit bumper, thankfully it was in soft ground.

I'm 20, pay for my own B7 through work so I feel you. Maybe worth a shot at some self-bodywork

Hah My speeding ticket is still in the glove box. [headbang] I just got my work schedule for next month and I have to go to the Bahamas for 2 1/2 to 3 weeks. It doesn't look like ill have the time to tackle this project anytime soon. I'm thinking about just taking it to the body shop and have it done for my return.[=(] I don't want to wait and do it after because I cant even look at the car right now and haven't touched it since the incident. Can anyone recommend a good body shop in south FL? Thank you

You don't even have your license yet and you have an audi? I'm 17 too by the way, and I've paid for my mods and car so far also. Along with gas which is what's more of a bitch. It's weird that you, the other kid and I are all from North Jersey too.[up]

ye that is strange lol. I took delivery of the car a little over a month ago. It was a good deal I couldn't pass up and always wanted an Audi. I'm just workin hard to keep making those payments, but my car is a joy to drive and it really makes me happy, so I guess I can say it's worth it :)

Aw man, it can happen to the best of us. A few weeks ago during an ice/rain/snow storm, wifey almost skidded into and smashed both our cars. Luckily she didn't but, apparently it was close. That would have really tested my husband skills... [:D]
