I drive a 2005 A4 2.0T quattro with a manual transmission. I can't find the warning light ANYWHERE in the owner's manual. Thanks in advance for your help.

The pic is a warning light I saw this morning. I emailed the photo to the local Audi dealership service department and none of the service people knew what it was.

Yep. How come it's not in the manual?
What was really strange about the light coming on was that I was at a stoplight this morning, dropped something on the floorboard, turned on the dome light and then the warning light came on. It flashed until I got to work and turned the engine off. I let the car sit for about 10 minutes, turned it back on and the warning light never came back on. I even ran the "check" function on the dash.

if something is blocking the adaptive lights they warning till come on. If you turn the car off and then turn it back on and it goes away, your fine. If it comes on all the time, take it to the dealership....

Ok, so I have the same warning on my dash for the past month and I'm confused at this point.
Both low and high beam seem to be working ok, and still do their dance at startup. Warning doesn't go away if I turn headlights off and back on.
Dealer orally told me it's the left bulb, but wrote down left headlight on the service note.
I was just about to order D1S bulbs from ebay, but thought I'd confirm here first...what do I need exactly? Bulb, ballast, entire headlight,...? [confused]
I'm out of warranty, so want to make sure I'm ordering the wrong part..
Anybody..?
Edit: Just found this thread: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/250164-Can-Anyone-Tell-Me-What-This-Warning-Light-Means
Several members have suggested that the lights will stop swiveling. Now that I think about it, mine might have stopped swiveling since I got this warning.
Anybody know what's the fix, and how many $$$ we're talking?

Just a headsup order new bulbs from sonic tuning. It was $72 for both bulbs shipped in whatever temperature you want. I've had bad luck with eBay bulbs... 2 sets from one guy both didn't work, eventually ending up getting my money back. Plus I ordered from sonictuning this week Tuesday and got them on today (Thursday) I live in Milwaukee put em in today and can't complain!!
Edit: didn't see that your lights may have stopped swiveling, however if you're ordering bulbs I recommend sonic tuning if the whole headlight isn't shot and bulbs are only needed

Thanks BDM, I'll check them out. I still need to confirm that it's bulbs that I need, and not something else..

Just a heads up, I’ve heard that if you use non OEM bulbs you could f-up you ballast. I would stick with brands like Osram, GE or Philips. Remember the old saying "you get what you pay for".
I had issues with my headlight flickering and sometimes one of them would completely go out. I also got the same error as the op which is different than "dipped light" error. (Dipped=bulb error and OPs error=adaptive feature error) I did some research and concluded that it could be my bulb or ballast. Since I wanted to change the color temp of my bulb anyways, I changed the OEM bulbs to a pair of GE 5100K D1S and all my problems went away.
My hypothesis for these adaptive errors is due to faulty bulbs fucking with the ballast (unless somehow shit in the housing is physically preventing the adaptive movements or your adaptive motors are F-ed) The ballast in our cars with adaptive bi-xenon is the brain of the system so it does more that just provide power to the bulbs, it actually sends power to the adaptive motors.

dude that's the oldest warning light in the book....75% of us enthusiasts have seen that on the regular....Either change the ballast or the bulbs. Usually the bulbs by them selves can do the trick

The letter from AoA just said that the warranty on the headlights was going to be extended to match the drivetrain warranty. 4 yrs/50k miles. I didn't understand why Audi even sent the letter. I would have assumed the headlights would have been covered regardless. I'm SOL either way.

Thanks for all the replies, guys.
Looks like the opinion is still split between bulb OR ballast. I think I'll have to take my chance with the bulbs first, since they are cheaper. I don't have a garage, and given the Boston cold, I'm going to have a shop replace them for me.

Agreed, I always prefer well-known brands.

Other than the annoyance of a beep from the dash and the Adaptive light error on the screen in the dash, is there any concern about ignoring the warning especially if my High and low beams are working fine? Is there more damage happening or will the bulb or ballast eventually go altogether?

Wait....how does an Audi dealership not know what light that is? Especially, the Service Department of all places. That's the part that boggled my mind!

Ballasts have been found to have "sub standard" components inside them. Look up Phil (fly300kts is his screen name here) and send him your ballasts. He'll fix them up so you have no more issues. You'll also want to replace your bulbs at the same time, as a dying bulb puts extra strain on the ballast. I had this same issue when I bought my car a year ago. I had Phil fix my ballasts and put in new bulbs. No problems since then. And Phil's "service" is top-notch IMO.
