i was wondering if anyone know how to shave the lower rear bumber hole where the exhaust comes out on the left. i had found some pics of someone that had it done and there exhaust was turned down but can not seem to find the pics.

anyone find the pics??? post them on here
or if anyone who knows how to do it, let me know thanks

you will need another rear valance, you need to cut the old valence and plastic weld pieces into the hole on yours. then you will have to smooth the whole thing and texture paint it.

where could i find a new valance? sounds like a alot of work to just get a hole smooth over to turn down my exhaust

or you could just fiberglass over the gap and smooth it, then smooth the rest of the textured portion and paint it

yeah sounds a little better. its just i dont know how to fiberglass. i want to learn. and i want the paint the same color at the the rear valance.

You don't know how to use fiberglass and that sounds better than plastic welding a piece of the stock bumper material? [confused]
It takes a small piece of the plastic, a soldering iron, body work and then paint.
I usually don't like fiberglass as it tends to crack and such when not properly applied. The plastic will hold much better IMO.[up]

thats true i'e heard fiberglass does tend to crack. and the plastic im sure will hold better. i want it to come out smooth like the opening was never there. match paint up to the rear valance?

not a turn down exhaust, or painted lower but the hole is shaved.

here is what a 'molded' or 'shaved' and painted lower valence looks like. tits.

You should do them all. Shaved, Molded, Painted. I know I want to. Just need money and time.

yeah i really like the first pic. i want mine shaved like that but with turn down exhaust. we need a DIY on this. thanks for the pics. how would i go about shaving the rear valance?

just a heads up, I do believe that first pic was photoshopped.

oh. well i've seen a pic out there somewhere that i know wasn't photoshop. just dont remember where it was. i just wish i could figure out excatly how to do this.

1.Cut out a piece from the spare valence that fits very tight into the exhaust cutout.
2.Then cut small strips of the same plastic to use as filler.
3.Crank up your soldering iron and from the back side start to melt the area where the two pieces join.
4.Once its molten you can add some filler if need be.
5.Work your away around the edges until filled in and looks solid.
6.Do the front side if you want.. you'll just need to sand it down smooth afterward.
7.Then do your filler, bondo, duraglass, sanding, wet sanding, painting etc.

If you don't know how to do body work. You should reconsider or get a buddy who knows how, to show/teach you.

oh thanks. that helped alot. its just i dont have a spare valance.

01-21-2010, 11:50 PM
The plastic welding is the easy part.
Hit up your local junkyards for one. Or search the classifieds/craigslist for a wrecked/part out car. Even one with a f*cked up bumper can work, you'll only need a small section.
Good Luck! And post pictures or a DIY when you do!

I want to do the same thing as you because I have my exhaust exiting out of the side. I have seen a passat near me with an aftermarket valance with no exhaust cutout, but havent had time to look for it.

talk to captn. obvious in the b6 section he has both cutouts shaved and turned down exhaust pipes

01-22-2010, 07:38 PM

You should do them all. Shaved

This thread is funny

I was waiting for that one^

For as simple and cheap as this seems, I'm surprised more people havn't tried.

I'm still shocked at the amount of time I see "bumber" on these forums. This is like the 4th time this week.

Send me the 2 valences and $100 and I'll do it for you in an hour.
