I've never disconnected battery and never had issues.

If you're still in the Phoenix area (profile says Canada), I'd be happy to help you out, shoot me a PM. The trick is all in having the right tools - the socket needs to be deep and have a wobble socket fitting.

I too used the DIY and now have taken my front end off countless times.........it only takes 15mins once you know what you are doing.

I used a DIY on a4mods.com. Very thorough, with pics. Make sure you have a 10-12" ratchet extension and a ratchet elbow joint is a good +.
