So I have been informed that I have a blown head gasket. [headbang]
Symptoms - dripping oil on ground and now signs of oil in my cooling reservoir, so question the is - can I just replace the gaskets or should I have it sent out to be machined down? If so what are the typical cost of this job? Anyone with experience in this department?

Thank you in advance.

Will

Take it to machine shop to make sure it's flat, it shouldn't cost much. My mechanic charges $50 for it, but that's with a hookup

what you should do is have the heads cleaned and resurfaced and pressure checked to make sure there are no cracks. runs about 150 a head at my guy. if you have a lot of miles is also worth it to have the valve seals replaced and do a valve job since they are off. thats what i would offer it to one of my customers. prob looking at around 3-400 per head done right. but if you dont wanna spend that money get em cleaned and cut and pressure checked at a minimum

What year is your A8. Older V8's this is common after time. Normally new headgaskets will cure the problem.
