So, a projekt soon to be finished, I hope.

Cables to solve the problem with brake light. (There is no brake light bulb in the A4 as there is in the A6. A4 uses the same bulb as for rear light)

Almost ready, have to seal it up to avoid having a fish tank every where I go. The OEM connector is to be used still, I only have to add some brake light and a curcuit for the resistor.

Sealing almost done

Seen the same project here (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&tl=en&u=http://www.audisport-iberica.com/foro/index.php%3Fact%3DPrint%26client%3Dprinter%26f%3D5 %26t%3D137127)... pretty sweet. Definitely not cheap to do but looks awesome.

looks good....make sure you seal the cut out spot good though so you don't get any leaks or humidity in them

So you let the original bulb (tail/brake) somewhere outside of complete?
Or what you mean by saying " Re-use the tail and brake light for the LEDs"?
I´m planning the same mod to my Avant, so nice to know that some other guy is "getting some gray hair";)
How about re-wiring brake lights (4 pcs) wires from third brake light?
Only problem to me is how to seal lights enough for our Nordic weather.

No, re-used the "bulb holder wiring" only. (But had to make a cutcuit to the resistor and back to fool the bulb warning.
The 3d brake light can only support the brake lights in the rear door lights. (2pcs). 4pcs = no break light at all and a bulb warning in the instrument cluster.
I use the rear light (2V)/brake light(12V) wire to supply a relay and the rear light LEDs (which will light up more when I break, like on the A6).
The rear light outer brake light LEDs are then given 12V when I brake (from the relay) only.
The same solution with a relay will be used for the rear fogs.
I use standard sealant. It is supposed to be ok for our weather..
Feel free to ask more, so my gray hairs arent a waste =)

How?
Too expensive in my book due to the fact that you need to buy A6 tails. And again, without a car: impossible

No. You had a poll and everyone went with the LEDs spaced closely together. I like your work but prefer the larger spaced apart tails.

What are the prices for used A6 tail lights with LEDs from totaled cars in the US?!
Recent years of the A6 limo has LED lights too, maybe the can be built into the B7 tails :)
Thanks all for the positive response! Glad you like it, because so am I :D

If I remember well from the Spanish website, the set of tails was 600 Euros

I got these 2nd hand from a guy who had done it already, but I had to take them apart, clean them and redo all of it in a better way. The seal he used was poor. And his wiring was not 100%, he had only 2 brake lights, not all 4 o f them, and no rear fog light. Im going to solve those problems.
So I got a set of A4 tails, pre-cut, A6 LED modules, and some work done for less than €300 :) Well worth it and Im learning and having fun on the way.
But €600, is that for a set of used tails? Thought that was the price when new?

Wow I just love the look of A6 led tails...So classy yet impressive at the same time...
Excellent man. I just hope they dont get waters inside...
Is this possible for the sedan as well...?
Matteeee
01-16-2010, 08:08 AM
Thanks!
I have not seen it being done on any sedan, and the tail LEDs for the A6 has been around longer for the avant.. If the measurements aren´t too different it should be possible.

I´ve made the first part of a curcuit diagram showing how I have connected the A6 LEDs to the car, without trashing the OEM connection. The first part includes the outer tails only, but I´ll do it all when I´ve finished it.
If anyone wants to see it meanwhile, PM me..

Almost done.

1. Tail light
2. Tail light + rear fog (the LEDs, couldnt find a solution for using the A6 rear fog light :( )
3. Brake light (the inner part brake light is done too, but I didnt get that on pic yet)
Crappy cell phone pics, but hang on, more to come later..

I haven´t seen it, but the A6 sedan came with LEDs later than the Avant, so I guess that would be a good start. If you hurry you might be the first. Wiring-wise it is the same as for the avant, and I will answer questions regarding this for you =)

Dectane sectioned out the lights making them look too ricey and cheap. Matteee's version is much better and clean with the LEDs only showing when lit.
