I took my car in because the internal door handle from the inside was not recessing back and preventing the door to be closed (very embarrassing)

Dealership notes read as follows:

"Removed door panel and found all but one of door panel clip missing. The door frame insulation is torn down the middle and the door handle cable is kinked. The cable was bent back into shape as best as possible. The door insulation needs to be replaced. New door panel clips were installed."

Parts:

8E0-863-981-B - SOUND ABS (what is this?)
8E0-839-085-C - BOWDcABLE
8E0-868-243 - CLIPS
Insulation ??

They said this was caused by external influence (probably first owner of the car) and quoted me about 250-300 to do this job. Is this something that can be a DIY ? Any comments , feedback welcomed.

Thanks

It is definitely diy.
Second part is bowden cable:

Yes it is the same, sound abs is for sound absorber and you can buy it here.

Sound absorber for $30.12: http://www.audiwholesaleparts.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=searchCatalogOEM&siteid=215295

The cable is $10.97:

Clip is $.60 a piece:

So about $50 shipped all together. Just take the door panel off and rip out the sound absorber, clip on the clip, replace the cable and then put the new sound absorber. Usually people take those off when replacing speakers or something or the guy before you tried to to take the door trim out and just ripped the sound absorber to get to the clips and forgot to put some back. Anyway definitely don't the dealer do this, it'll cost you $50 and maybe half an hour of your time.

I will search my bookmarks. But there is a pretty good DIY somewhere on removing the door panel (may even be in the B6 forum, as they are the same as us).

The sound insulation is super easy to do your self. Use a hair dryer/heat gun to remove the old stuff (the adhesive is somewhat strong, and you want to remove ALL of it). Then just stick the new insulation on where the old one was. It has a bead of adhesive on it.

$300 is crazy price. I think I paid around $150 for all 4 doors for the insulation material.

Its not there, its foam looking thing that covers all the door from inside. Look at my first picture, thats what it is, number 37.

If yours is not ripped a lot then dont replace it, if it is you'll hear more outside noice coming in from the door.

Clips aren't really necessary. I broke most of mine and removed the others that weren't broken. Panel is still held down quite well with the various screws across the top, middle and on the bottom. Not having the clips, one thing for sure, it's much easier to remove the panel if I need to pull it off again. Definitely a DIY-fix.

Why do you need a picture? The one that was posted above is it. It is about the size of your door, and made of foam:)
