Ok so ive got a 2006 a4 v6. About 40 000km or 25 000miles

Anyway ive been having problems starting the car. Kinda rough noise the first time i crank the key. but the 2nd time she always started.

So i took a trip to audi to spend 100$ to get the problem diagnosed (yay)
I was told I had carbon buildup and that it would cost 300$ in parts and 5 hours in labor [=(]

Has anyone ever had this ?
Any other solutions?
Could this also rob me of power ?
Does this sound right ?

are they talking about manually cleaning the valves?

I didint ask. My understanding is they want to replace some valves but im not a pro when it comes to engines.

I've seen a few threads about DIY carbon build up cleans. Try searching for a few I don't think it's too difficult and would definitely save some cash

I just got the BG Induction Cleaning service done at the dealer for 160 w/ tax total. I have a 50 gift certificate they sent me in the mail, so it normally cost around 200. I'm skeptical on how well it cleaned the valves, but I did notice a difference on how long it takes to start my car and it runs very smooth. It used to crank 3-6 times in cold weather, now it's never more then 2-3. The borescope shows most of the carbon gone, but the pics were not very good since it wasn't a high end scope. The dealer did not offer any before and after pics.

Don't have it done at the dealer, go to a tuner shop or german car repair place. The labor is 5 hours, but the parts should be less. They will manually clean the valaves and remove all carbon which is better then a BG cleaning service from what I've heard.

claiming carbon build up and you're only at 25k miles?? I wouldn't buy that... but the 5 hours of labor and it only being 300 bucks surprises me. typically dealerships charge at least 80/hour for labor... something isn't right...
