Well, most of you are familiar with our B7A4 running the AWE GT2871 kit. It was the first AWE kit running here on the left coast. In case you missed it, our original post was here ORIGINAL THREAD (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=257816).

Original install maintained the stock clutch, as the customer wasn't ready just yet for the work and cost involved to change it. Well, about a year later, the clutch finally gave out, in a rather spectacular fashion.

Since the car needed a new clutch, it was time for some serious work. We partnered up again with the folks at AWE and drew up some plans to put some serious power into the car. After a few weeks of back and forth working out the details, work began.

On the drawing board we've got planned.
JE Pistons 9.5:1 Ceramic coated domes and skirts
Integrated Engineering rods
Clutchmaster FX400 6-puck
Clutchmaster LW Steel FW
Stern Pro-Mount Motor Mounts
Stern Pro-Mount Tranmission Mount
JHM 4:1 Diff
Polished intake and exhaust ports
Cleaned up the valves

Valves had a good amount of sludge on them. Good time to clean them up.

These oil pumps are ginormous!

Had the block and head sent off to be cleaned up. Fresh hone on the bores, checked the deck and head for flatness, and polished up the intake and exhaust ports.

In case you weren't aware, the main bearing sizes are actually stamped into the block. "R" indicates the red bearing is needed.

Fresh block with rings all gapped and ready for installation.

Pretty new pistons with ceramic coating.

Upgraded IE Rods ready for installation.

Stayed tuned as we continue with the build!

We're shooting for around 400 on pump gas, and considerably higher on race. *crossing our fingers!*

What happened when the clutch went?
Nothing catastrophic. Car just wasn't engaging or disengaging gears anymore.

Thanks all, we'll provide updates soon!

Conflicting stories! [evilmad]

The clutch failed in a spectacular fashion, just see the photo..
What you actually felt in the car was the gears just didn't engage/disengage.. Nothing spectacular there..

How many miles on the engine? And could you post some more pics of the valves...that is definately something we will all run into eventually. It would be helpful to know what process you used to clean them.

Looking good...can't wait to see what this will do!!

Don't have any individual shots of the valves themselves. The head was completely disassembled, and the valves were individually cleaned in a hot tank.

Ive just ordered the wossner pistons and they told me 9.5:1.. but the mechanic told me 8.5. I think standard they are 10 something

Stock is 10.5:1 and I'm pretty sure you need 9.5:1

Just found this...hope it helps.
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?123431-Which-2-0T-FSI-Engine-do-you-have&p=1466333&viewfull=1

But I don't think you have to have pistons...it would be extra insurance sure, but not absolutely needed.
You need to spend a little more to clean up the block, etc too. Rods/ARP bolts can be dropped in.

I've decided against pistons if I go in to the engine at all. It would be too difficult to work with GIAC, and frankly the JE pistons haven't been getting a great review. I'd rather have a solid tune running on a solid motor than jeopardizing that for not that much more power.

I think there is more power to be had from the GT28 but there hasnt been much venture with the internals
