it's still in the works...but seems exciting.
The most important thing to understand is that running this roller-style setup will require a new cam with a different lobe.

Sounds expensive...

well the company said the whole kit with everything you will need will be about $450, they will also have a core exhange so send your stuff back once you get yours up and going. Parts are not too bad, labor will be more then anything once you get the parts.

Actually, you have to send your cam with the head end cover in to have H2Sport modify them to fit the new roller follower and the fuel pump mount. The profile of the cam lobe is different and it needs to be put on your cam for the new roller follower. Just check the last page of the thread on vwvortex for pictures and details... It does sound promising for those who are planning on keeping this car for a while. To take the cam out you have to dismantle the front of the car. It might be cost effective to do this at the time of the timing belt replacement. The price is $400US (introductory price only $316!). Again, check the thread for the contents of the kit here (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4484254&page=8)
Well, at least someone is trying to fix this issue... Kudos to H2sports.[up]
I'm puzzled by the design, as it seems technically overdone (Which I guess goes along with the typical German engineering concept) doesn't it?
I can't see the need to address the cam at all, but instead just shorten the fuel pump shaft. I haven't pulled a pump to even look, so I'm just guessing here, but if you add a half inch to the bucket thickness, isn't the shaft long enough to simply remove a half inch and maintain the same stroke?[confused]
Also wondering why they didn't use a trailing roller (set back from center a bit) to prevent possible rotation issues.

According to this post: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4740349&postcount=40
It sounds like they had to redesign the cam because of the difference in the behavior between a flat follower and a roller follower. It sounds like perhaps the flat follower starts moving at a different time than the roller follower as the cam lobe rotates.

Well somewhere in there i read that they would offer a core exchange so turn around time wouldnt be long. H2sport said they would charge $1000 to cover the cost of the cam and end cover.
Yeah really good idea to do this at the same time of the timing belt. Its getting close to doing my timing belt so hopefully they come out with this pretty soon.

The big question is how much it would cost all-said-and-done. Labor looks like it could really mount up.

Why can't they just use a different kind of material for the current setup to make it harder? Like Tungsten Carbide, or diamonds? [>_<]I seriously doubt I will ever shell out near $1000 to upgrade a part that is fairly easy to replace/check. Unless of course, it adds at least 20 HP, and 35 tq. Speaking of which, I should really get to checking mine. I am near 95k miles...

^^Yeah i guess your right, i was thinking about that too, i changed out my follower not too long ago and it wasnt THAT hard to do. If you have all the right tools its pretty simple. Just sucks that the followers are $50 a piece. But then again, thats about 9 followers you will go through for the price of the kit. But yeah install price is going to be a pain!
I guess the new followers from Audi are suppose to be stronger. We will see how long before i change mine.
Jim yeah def. check yours out!

Yeah, I bought the car at 74k miles, and am not sure if it has ever been replaced. I would assume so, with all the problems these things have. But it's too damn cold to be dicking around in my garage for hours right now. Not even sure if I have all the right tools. I was going to join that Facebook group for this, til I saw there was 12 people. Not going to get much accomplished till it's in the thousands.

I think what they are trying to address though is more than just the cam follower, it is the fact that the camshaft itself is made of metal that is too soft to be doing the job that it is doing and wears out as well. In my case, I am having to replace the camshaft, follower and HPFP which are all shot as a direct result of the weak camshaft. Oh how I wish I could have just ordered a follower off of ECS and done it my self [=(]

I think you are right. If the follower was upgraded to anything harder, it would actually wear through the cam instead of vice versa.

Exactly, the cam metal is already too weak, making the follower stronger would just wear your cam out faster. Need moar harder cams

All i have $$ for now is a new cam follower anyway, unless i take apart take pics and dealer will cover.

Im sure once its out all the GTi guys will be all over it. Might wait a lil while and let them test it out first. See how things go and ill play it from there.
Might just pass up on this.

Yeah, I've got no need for this. Worst case scenario you just replace the follower every year. The follower was only $39 when I ordered it from GenuineVWAudiParts.com. That's about half of what one oil change costs me. First time checking it only took an hour as well.

^^^ I agree with you. I love the idea of a roller follower, however, Its only practical i its less work than the current problem. Obv i haven't done the r&d on this but if it were just a mod on the hpfp shaft it would be great. You pull your pump send it out, they tear it down put new shaft on it. The new shaft could have things like a harder springs, a roller ball similar to a ball point pen, or a shorter shaft for a roller follower etc. If they were offering that for 300 I would do it. But im def not pulling my head. That would be about 8 cam follower changes worth time or more!

Just got 48,000 on the way into to wrk, just 2G left before this cam problem will be on my dime! Everytime I had it at the dealer they tell me it's fine, no codes.....Im going in soon for the recall on the coils, im going to try to make them take it out, and show me the cam follower- It's just to cold to do it myself, I also don't have the right tools! I might just sell this car in the spring and try my luck at getting a S4 Avant....lol

Just sucks that this car is a problem. I also wonder if i can sell it once the potential buy looks at my mantenance records.
Audi is not doing right by us here. They are only doing the bare minimal for the lease crowd. I swear my dealer doesn't care about the guy who plans on keeping there car for more then 3 years.

Do you guys think this will work in our A4 since the HPFP is already close to the engine bay wall and we need to install a spacer for the roller setup...

well it set up to work with the pump.

The pump faces sideways, so spacing it out a few inches should just move it closer to the drivers side. Shouldn't make it any closer to the firewall.

I will be purchasing as soon as production of parts is up. I have a new cam to send off and will need to send my end cover after I install all the new parts. Tom is a great guy so far and I believe this design will put the damn follower problem to rest!
- i needed to change out my cam anyway since I put in a new follower since it was worn from the original follower that had a hole through it. Will update once everything is going. Prolly won't be till a month or so later.

Fuel cut at high RPM/high load. But by then it's probably too late and you've already got major damage to your cam and fuel pump from the follower having a bit hole in it.
