Today I talked to my local guy (not dealership) about installing my exhaust and test pipe. He was saying how it would void my warranty, even on my engine if something happened. Now I know the stealership isn't a fan of mods, but will this really have a big affect if something goes wrong? It seems like there are a lot of Stage 2 guys on here under warranty still.
Opinions, thoughts...

the exhaust itself will only void the exhaust warranty. The TP is a different story. that COULD cause you to void the engine warranty...

Basically the only way it does effect the warranty if the problem is directly related to the TP or exhaust

It all depends on what goes wrong, and IF they can prove that your exhaust could have lead to, or caused the situation. Say your turbo blows, and they can prove it was because of the added stress of the increased flow, etc...

can you elaborate on this? how does a testpipe/HFC void the engine warranty?

Here is a better ex.

If your car were to throw a CEL and it's because of the TP or exhaust, the diagnostic isn't covered and to fix, is out of your own pocket.

If your window regulator breaks, a dealership can't say it's beucase your ehxuast is loud it could have threw it off the track.

(like the example above) if your turbo were to blow, they can tech. relate the turbo failure to the exhaust/TP aftermarket for the cause and that would NOT be covered by the warranty.

I hope this help....

X2.

Who is your dealer? Jim ellis, nalley or rick case? Nalley used to be stasis dealer but discountinued it and you can go to them and they won't care about exhaust since they were selling cars with stasis exhaust, tp is a different story, not sure what their response would be to that.

It is Jim Ellis Audi. Would it make any difference if it were a HFC instead?
I want to go stage 2 but I don't want the dealership to be jerks about it on purpose. Thanks for the help thus far.

I think HFC will be better choice, I think they won't even pay attention to it since they see it and it will be really hard for them to prove it that HFC caused the problem whatever it may be.

So, in your opinion if I got a HFC instead it would be much more accepted by the dealership over a TP?

The answer you are looking for is a yes or no, but that question can't be answered like that.

I am CPO and i still have full warranty even with my TP, but i do understand if something were to go bad and it was a direct relation to my TP i know it's not going to be covered...

I have STaSIS exhaust and GIAC-X chip as my performance mods. My PCV went and put my car in stock mode, took it to Nalley and told them I had oil on the outside of my oil cap. They got a look at the car, switched out the PCV and I was on my way. Everything was covered under warranty and they didn't say anything to me about my mods. Hope this helps...

The same exact thing happened to me this Saturday. Nalley is pretty cool, and Roy is a good guy. Go there instead of Jim Ellis.

In my experience, it depends on the dealer. I've had dealers blame a mod for something unrelated failing and I've had a dealer turn a blind eye to mods and just fix the problem. You're rolling the dice with any mods.

It all depends on the dealer, you could find a mod friendly one or you could find a dealership that will refuse to honor your warranty because you have an aftermarket air filter. I think the real grey area that no one seems to know about is, how they can void your warranty. Sure they can type in some notes about the car that another dealer might see, but what is the actual process AOA has them take to actually void it.

A dealership doesn't "blacklist" someone who has done aftermert stuff on a car. They don't report it to AoA either, unless circumstances are needed. Why would a dealership want to not allow someone to get their car serviced? They don't. We get paid off warranty and non warranty fixs.

The problem that a lot of people fail to see is not if we(the dealerships) are mod friendly or not, its when Audi audits a dealerships, is the work they do warranty or not. if it turns out to be warranty then Audi pays the dealership for the work. If a dealerhsip does it under the assumption it is warranty and AoA says no, the dealership is held to pay for it.

This is how most dealerships work. If you bring your car into one dealership that says the repair is a customer pay (and you feel its warranty) bring it to another dealership, the next one might have it under warranty. Even though both dealership are under the Audi unbrella, they can choose to do a "free" service for a client. since the more times a client brings their car into a particular service department, the dealership is making money.

To end my long message, is there always going to be a gray area, yes. In any business there is always going to gray area.

SOOO, if a dealership really wanted to fuck you for having mods and it fucking with your motor (I am getting a TP and have a 2,500$ CPO warranty), they would have to be not-lazy enough to call up AoA, and get your car's warranty vioded, but if they just tell you up front that they don't want to pay for it (have it covered under warranty), it is because they are the ones losing money at that point? is this wrong/right i think I get it...

Your warranty on a 4cly is only $1,390, fyi

Most dealership (well the smaller ones) don't want to get involved with cars that are modified because there is more paper work that needs to be looked over to make sure and verify a servce that is or is not covered. Most large dealerships know pretty well if it's going to be covered or not. No dealership is going to call up AoA and tell them that your car is modifed just so they can Fuk you over. That is more of a waste of the dealerships time than anything. If you put in a complaint about a dealership NOT servicing your car because they feel it's been modified and you feel different, then they will call an AoA service rep to look at the car (on behalf of AoA). The only ties he has with the dealership is that he is the area's rep (for AoA). He is the final say that can make a decision over a dealership service manager, but only if it gets up that far. Now if the Audi service rep decides the car is NOT under warranty, then the audi rep reports all the mods back to AoA and the AoA can make the decision if they want to publish your mods to all audi dealership. Then you would basically F yourself.

Hope this answers your question

Not ecessarily. A good dealership will have an average shop cost of $2,500-$3,000 (which includes the warranty of $1,390, detail, fixing door dings(if needed), rock chips(if needed), replacing windshield(if needed), tires(if needed), and misc other things that a normal dealership won't fix). So they were probably quoting you the ave reconditioning cost.

actually that does sorta make sense since they did put 4 brand new p6s on before i got the car... those are like 200ish each...
