View Full Version : Automatic Transmission between 1.8 A4

New to the board, great to be here...seem to have good knowledgeable members.

I need to change a Tipronic transmission from a 1999 A4, can I swap it with any other Tiptronic trans/Torque converter from a 1.8T? Are they all the same gearing? And Yes, it is a Quattro.

If any of you can point me in the right direction, I will be appreciated.

I believe you can. But just to make sure, make sure you find a transmission that has the same code as yours. I believe for the 99 it will have a code as DTV

Found some info. You can, but you need to change some of the internal parts, such as the speed sensor. Besides that, it is the same transmission.

Interesting thought, i completely agree with your perspective

Just as an update, for people that didn't know. The casing is all the same, speed sensor are different so as the Torque converter.

For internal parts, gearing are all the same within 1.8 and Vice-versa with the 2.8. Internal parts may differ, for xyz reason, you just need to use a used one from any other matching trans...can be from either a 1.8 or 2.8.

I just completely dismantled my 5hp19-FLA for a rebuild, interesting project.

care to comment on the 5HP19 rebuilt? it looks like my 4-th and 5-th gears are shot and I'm debating rebuilding it myself or buying a used one the call it a day. also is the speed sensor the only difference between trannys?
