as far as i know, none of the b5's do. I was told that the 170 horse motor was only in the b6's.

99.5 and up is the 170 Hp motor. Everything down from there is 150 Hp. I'm not to sure which year went to DBW though but my 01 sure is....

really??? i have a 99.5 and the manual says i only have 150 horse 150 torque. hmmm. mabey its just a manual screw up. than would be nice, cuz the car def doesnt feel like 150 horse. i assumed it was because of the quattro why it felt like more. i only drove FWD's before so i didnt know what to expect from AWD but i love it!!!

where your throttle isnt directly connected to your throttle body via cable, its connected to some sort of electronic switch then the ECU controlls the throttle

99.5 is w/ all the lighting and cupholder upgrades LOL. 2000 was the start of DBW, double din headunit, and other stuffs.

did they not do a 180 bhp version in the states?
because the quattro sport here (uk) had the 180 bhp 1.8 t engine. they were from 99.5 upwards i believe.

No, there were engine changes too. Variable valve timing, compression change (down I believe) and more boost from the factory.

It's noticably faster than my friend's '99.5 was stock.

I did search b4 I asked the question. Sorry anyhow if I have asked (to see if both intake and ex. VVT) to many n00b questions.

I will hang out with Mr. http://www.audizine.com/images/buttons/forumnav_search.gif more often.

I thought I saw something saying that, however now when I search around I don't see any reference to VVT on the 2001. Maybe it doesn't have any.

I have the 180Hp A4. It came with VVT and the K03 sports and was released in May 1999 until 2001.
I was released in Australia (where i'm from) and a few other european countries. It's different to the Golf and Jetta (or Bora as it's know to us from downunder). the Golf and Jetta have the transverse engine where the A4 180Hp engine is longitudinal. As far as I know the 180Hp was in the quattro but I could be wrong.
