I have a 2001 S4 w/ Bose. I thought the rear speakers were going bad because I would hear a 'pop/crackle' sound when the bass hits a certain note on certain songs. Well over the weekend I replaced the stock speakers with 2ohm kicker subs and they are still making the same sound, right after I installed them. Does this problem seem to be with the amp? It can't be the speakers since the speakers are new. Anyone have any ideas? I'm wondering if the sound is getting distorted or if what I'm hearing is the speakers clipping. Everything is stock(except the 2 rear subs I just replaced) and I'm using a Phatbox. Maybe I just need to adjust the hidden equalizer?

well... without hearing it, i cant help too much... I asume you ment that you replaced the rears with not subs, but normal speakers. i would say if you just replaced the speakers, it might be the connections themselves.. have you adjusted the fade/balance to isolate each speaker to see which one/ones are making that noise.. otherwise, i would think it is probably either that the amp is bad/going bad or the amp cant put out enough power to run the new speakers correctly..
if you just threw a set of subwoofers in where the original rear speakers are, yea, that wont work.. good luck man

I actually threw 6.5" subs in there, to replace the Bose subs. They do work exactly like the old ones (pop/crackle) in the same spots on the same tracks. Overall the sound is great, it's just when they 'clip'.. which is the whole reason I put these in thinking the old ones were blown. These are 2 Ohms, so the impedance is the same as the Bose subs I took out. It's probably the hidden equalizer that I adjusted a couple years back, in combination with the Phatbox preout. I will play around with it a bit and see if I can fine tune it out.

but wait man.. you dont have subwoofers in the doors, you had midrange speakers and tweeters in the door. "IF" you found some 6 1/2" "subwoofer" then yea, it wont sound nearly the same.
i would think that your probably right.. find the equalizer and double check the phat box.. worse case senario, go to an car audio shop (not best buy or such) and have them take a look... good luck

I want to get an aftermarket Hifonics amp to replace the stock bose, and eventually do all the speakers.
