Hey All,

I'm torn between getting a Used Yakima Roof Rack for 200 plus a 3.5 hour drive or a Votex Roof Rack for 215 new in box.

Now I know I'll spend more driving to get the used Yakima than the new Votex, but the Votex has no front diverter, which I could make but still. Will it be noisy?

Anyone have experiece with the two? I just want it for snowboards and possibly my bike. I also only plan on keeping the car a couple more years before going to an A3.

Thoughts?

i have (had) a Thule roof rack with the front valence on my old car (they havent made the fit kit for the B8's yet). It is just as loud with or without the front valence, but IMHO looks a lot better with it. I used it for snowboards and for a road bike. It was used on a lot of long drives
(6+ hours) and never did i have an issue, so i would say go with Thule. I do not have experience with the other company.

I do not have experience with the other company.

It's a Votex kit, which means its OEM

I think the OEM bars look better then the Thule honestly.

Update, I meant Yakima...

Anyhow, I imagine the same comments apply, so thanks!

Anyone notice mileage difference w or w/o the wind fairing?

I have a yakima one right now with the raptor aero bike mounts and a fairing. The only mpg loss I noticed was when I had 2-3 bikes on the roof and it was about 2 mpg over the average of a full tank. The only noise i've noticed was from going 85 into the wind on a 10 hour drive to colorado last summer. The fairing makes a huge difference suprisingly. I think the oem ones look better, but the yakima/thule racks will function better. I use my rack alot and like it alot.

Quoted for the truth^^
I used to work at a bikeshop and we probably sold yakimas 9 out of 10 times. Seems every fricken car going down the road with a roof rack has a yakima. Makes sense though, they are gooood good stuff. The only thing I slightly dont like about them is that some of the attatchments look a little bulky. Cosmetics, bleh.

I have a yakima rack and it does its job just fine. It does make some noise at high speeds with snowboards on the roof. Other than that i have no complaints.

No rack! Racks are dumb, if you want to haul stuff buy a truck!

My friend has a vortex rack on his vw, i would rate it the same as my yakima in easy to use, style and wind noise.
