Hi guys, I am having issues with the sound coming out of the turbo, I am not sure what caused it, ceramic fins damaged? Loose turbine? Here is the video clip I took, not the best but can someone please tell me what it is and how to fix it?

Please note: Noise occurs when accelerating and decelerating.

If the noise is definitely coming from the turbo, and not back of the valve cover, then it is probably a loose wastegate flapper. In that case, the tension on the wastegate actuator rod needs adjusted to tighten it up.

If the noise is from the rear of the valve cover, then it is probably the cam chain tensioner.

To locate noises like this, you can use a mechanics stethoscope. Or you can just use a long screwdriver and put the handle to your ear. Touch different stuff on the engine (carefully) to locate the noise.

That is not the sound of a bad cam chain tensioner, it sound more like a exhaust leak to me.

He means with the end of the screwdriver, NOT your hands, just clearing that up [:p]

and this thread should help a lot with the sound you're hearing:

I had the same issue up until last night where the sound completely disappeared and I lost boost, so I'm thinking the vibration from the flapper finally caused the wastegate to fail and I no longer have a "working" turbo [headbang][headbang][headbang][headbang]

Yep, I am pretty sure is the wastegate.
