1999 A4 1.8T Quattro

Maroon w/ grey leather, sport wheel. 68k miles for $14,000.

Right price, perfect condition, they gave me a fair deal on my trade, offered me a low APR and I bought a 2 year warranty.

Its a 1999.5 cause its got the new climate control and H7 headlights and whatever else make it a 1999 1/2.

First mods: Kamei grill, cold air intake, maybe xenon kit and a catback exaust.

Later on: chip and springs.

[:D] [:D]

01-03-2005, 07:55 PM
Where and what chip to buy? how much?

01-03-2005, 08:07 PM
Well if your not going to do any other signicant engine mods(like upgrade trubo) go with Giac. Its the most aggresive. I started out with apr and was pleased but im running giac software now.

btw-congrats on the 99.5, best of hte b5s

01-03-2005, 08:07 PM
Is it Hibiscus Red?

01-03-2005, 08:08 PM
Giac, or APR

For a chip, you're looking between about $200 for a Neuspeed, to about $550 for the APR/Giac stuff....

As for the CAI, hold off...A few are in supposed development, and there's not many good inakes out there now for our cars...

non-DBW, with all the 99.5+ features!

01-03-2005, 08:36 PM
whats DBW?

01-03-2005, 09:42 PM
Drive By Wire. Also called "E-gas" in the Audi shop manuals.

Basically, on the cars made from 1996-1999.5 you have a regular throttle cable. On cars 2000 and newer you have a potentiometer built into the accelerator and when you press it down, it relays the percentage of throttle to the ECU. The ECU then converts that value into a voltage signal and sends it to an electronic servo on the throttle body to move the throttle plate opened or closed.

DBW can be difficult at times and you should re-calibrate it from time to time to keep the throttle plate servo zeroed out. Kind of like setting a floor scale to zero before you use it.

Congrats on the buy. I'd go suspension first. One of the more expensive mods. All the other ones are easy to save up for.

01-03-2005, 10:15 PM
yeah some Eibachs would be nice.. then you need strut and sway bars, then bushings etc. etc.

one mod starts a dozen more..[:D]

01-03-2005, 10:15 PM
nice dude! 99.5! good buy!

01-03-2005, 10:21 PM
thanks pad-nah.

I think I'm going to start with some stealth ambers and some Spark Blue PIAA's tomorrow..

I don't think I can afford a xenon kit..[:(]

and I can't tell what looks cooler, a Kamei grill or stock. hmm

And beyond that I think a chip would be cool. I can't afford an APR or GIAC or whatever either is they are $550+

How are the Neuspeed chips? those are in my range.

01-03-2005, 10:35 PM
grab an rs4 grill...oem and SICK!!! if you look in the classifieds you can find some b5 suspension up for sale as we speak. if you can't afford the apr or giac chips right now, i would wait and save.

here's a link for apr software http://www.goapr.com/Audi/products/ecu_upgrade_a418t.html

and here's some info on giac http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/part_detail.cfm?PMaI=1&PMoI=1&PEI=2&PP=a4_18t_chips.cfm&PPT=Chips&IL=GIACChips

do your research and remember to use the search function first.

bad news...

I got an engine warning light on already.. the yellow one with the lightning bolth through the engine block....[:(] [:(]
its just staying on though, no blinking and nothing on my computer screen thing.

warranty time it looks like.. guess I'll see how good that extended warranty is.

01-03-2005, 10:58 PM
man...hopefully it's nothing serious, get it vag'd asap. i actually blew my turbo the third day i owned the car. i got lucky and the previous owner helped pay for the repairs. good luck.

This thread is worthless without pics.....[:D] Bummer about the CEL.

01-04-2005, 09:16 AM
definitley do a suspension upgrade, that and chip first.

at that point decide what you want to do from there.

welcome to the "club"!

01-04-2005, 11:30 AM
i don't know enough html to know how to post pics...

01-04-2005, 11:43 AM
Congrats fellow 99.5'er! I'd save up for a GIAC. I also had an APR first, and i'm much happier with the GIAC. YOur dealing with a fine german machine, do your mods right the first time or pay more later. For some affordable HIDs ("xenons") find "ProtocolD" on this forum.

01-04-2005, 11:48 AM
how much? I'd have to pay to get them installed too cause I hate installing electrical stuff..

01-04-2005, 12:00 PM
do yo umean Chip or HID? Here's how to chip works
1. YOu remove ecu box from your car and ship it to them (ex. APR, DSR)
2. THey chip it and return the ecu box back to you
3. YOu reinstall into your car.

Downside is your car will be immobilized for about 1 week. The installation/deinstallation of the ecu box is real easy though. 1 tool and 5 minutes is all you need. i dont have a link to the instructions off hand, but someone here can point you in the right direction.

01-04-2005, 12:02 PM
hmm Ok. No car for a week.. yikes..

i'm sure its worth it though..

01-04-2005, 12:06 PM
you can always look through the classifieds, occasionally you'll see someone selling an ecu that's already chipped like this one http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32033
this seems like a good deal, but i don't know much about that chip

01-04-2005, 12:20 PM
what outkastSL said is an option. But you need the exact same ecu box for your car. I assume you have a P ecu box since your 99.5. THe P box comes with two numbers. You have to match your ecu box's number (shown on the back) with the one you plan to buy on the classifieds.

Fartsniffer, Im selling my apr chip with the flipswitch for my 99 p box. Its much more aggressive then the nuespeed. I got it 6th month ago and the only reason im selling it is because i have a new set and a blown motor. Pm me if your interested.
