I found something on this topic on another thread so I looked at the bar.ca.gov website and found Appendix I states:

"For the purposes of a Smog Check inspection, the following parts and emission control changes are acceptable provided that all of the required emission controls are connected and functioning. When conduction a Smog check inspection, it is not necessary to check for a CARB Executive Order for the following:"

Lists several things and then the 11th item down states

*"Intercoolers for OEM turbochargers;"

Curious... My step dad took our Talon to get smogged, it failed not because of the intercooler he had, but for the piping. It was a stock intercooler with piping we bought, as the hose there had deteriorated.

If I ever get smog reffed and they give me shit about piping, I'd keep saying "Show me were it says that! Show me damnit!"

i just went thru this pretty recently. i had to go to a state ref tho. a regular smog check you should be ok, but you won't pass if you go thru a state ref. (so try not to get pulled over for some nonsense like i did)

but state ref guy said something about a chargeback on our systems... i think it was where the electrical part (sensor) gets bolted into our piping. and that's why..

but yah, a regular smog station shouldn't be that picky.. so good luck :)

There are no sensors connected to the intercoolers on an S4, thus nothing should be affected.
