Brake Pad Light - how many miles left?

The brake pad light just went on - 2007 s8 with 17,000, pads were 6mm front, 7mm rear about a week ago during inspection. How many miles of city driving can I go without risk of harm? I need a couple of days to work out the logistics but do not want to do any damage.

only 17k???? im guessing you only measured the outer pads, which means your inners are below 5mm which is when the pad light usualy comes on. i would say based on the millage you have and how much brake youve already used you shouldnt go more than 1.2k miles.

Thanks - I took it in. Dealer says only 4mm on front and a lip on rotors. He says rears are 9mm and have 10K miles left on them. almost a grand for front pads and rotors - ouch
