Anyone ever get steelies to roll on a B7 with Sline suspension
investigating cheap winter setups.....
I searched and discovered it is not likely, but maybe someone has found a way?

I am in LA as well. I have two sets of wheels I would let go for cheap. Tires and all (16's), let me know.

Hey what kind? Steelies, or just some beater wheels?
I am looking for a winter setup. Condition not really super important.
I think We met once at pasadena rose bowl GTG I have a B7 Ibis Ti Avant 2.0t
Anyway LMK what you got and I'd like to try to test fit the fronts for brake clearance.

You definitely can use steel wheels. I use 16" steel wheels that I purchased thru tirerack.com from my 1999 A4. They only require spacers to fit on the B7. I don't remember what size- I think 15mm in the front, and a VERY small one in the rear.
I'm surprised more people don't use steel wheels in the winter. They are strong, and you also benefit from using a smaller wheel. The larger tire aspect ratio gives more cushion over pot holes, etc. Not to mention that 16" snow tires are cheaper. Yes, the wheels may not look nice for 3 months, but I personally don't mind since my car is caked in snow during the winter anyway.

How would 16" wheels clear our brakes/calipers, even with spacers? Stock 17"s barely fit...
Your 99 B5 A4 had brakes that were considerably smaller.
Not trying to bash, because I'd be all over a set for the winter if they actually worked.

[confused] I didn't know the weather was poor enough in So Cal to require winter wheels....
Is there something particularly nasty about LA winters that I am not aware of? No sarcasm here, I live in the Mid Atlantic, and not in the know.

Would probably just be nice to not have to run the risk of dirtying/damaging the 18in titaniums is all. Especially with trips to the slopes. Nothing too serious but good to have a backup [up]

Well then, I guess you'll be all over a set, because they do in fact fit. I ran them all winter. [:)]

The base model a4's had 16" alloy rims, perhaps you can look into that?
