I had my 15k service and oil change 1600 miles ago and my min oil lamp came on yesterday. I checked the dipstick and it was at the minimum line. Is this normal so soon after an oil change?

In general, Audi's are pretty notorious for burning up some oil. While it's tough to tell right now if you have a problem or not, I'd suggest buying a few quarts of oil (always good to have laying around anyways) and fill her back up. Monitor the situation at least every few days to see if you notice the level going down on the dip stick. If so, you can have the dealership or another shop/yourself look into the problem if you're burning an excessive amount of oil.

It is also possible that the dealership just didn't fill it up high enough and in the course of the 1600 miles, you burnt a little off setting off your oil light. But for now, I'd just start off by filling it up and seeing what happens from there.

to answer your question "is it normal", no it isn't

^^^ It shouldn't be normal, but it seems on quite a few cars it is. From what I've read, Audi's policy is that up to 1qt/1000 miles is acceptable.

1Q/ 1000 miles! That sounds ridiculous! Not saying you are a liar but if that is true Audi doesn’t have much confidence in their motors. 10K per oil change would be 10Q's? Maybe 1Q per 10K I could see that. I have about 9K since my last change and I'm still at the full line when warm. Service next week, 35K[:D]. I’m going 5K for now on. I don’t really like 10K, don’t mind the extra cost for a safer running engine. I like to run it hard[race].

Here's the thread with people who got that information from their dealers: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3743535

My oil light also just came on today, with the dip at the min line. I am at exactly 30k miles, in between servicings. The only 5w-40 I could find at my local autoparts was Shell brand, called Rotella T. Anybody have any experience with this? I'd never heard of it so I might just look a little harder for some Mobil 1 synth.

Get Mobil 1 European Car formula. It meets recommendations for our cars.. its like 0w-40 or 0w-30 I can't remember.
