Does anyone know more about this. The TSB from Audi says that they are aware there is a problem with B7 A4's from a cold start where it takes a while to start but does always start. They said back in '05 they were "working on the problem" and expected to update the TSB in Dec '08. Their new update? It updated the anticipated date to later "Rev 1". Ha!

My B7 A4 is doing this lately and it is exactly what the TSB describes, no codes, it does start just takes like 4 seconds of cranking, and the coil packs are fine. After the car is warm you cannot duplicate the issue.

Any techs on this board know more about this?

Thank you! [headbang]

Just complained about this when the car was in for service last week. I was told there is a TSB, but no real fix. "Try using higher quality gas w/ detergents." yea.....ok.

Yea, that doesnt seem to really be a big help. My dealer gives me "great" advice like that all the time. I'm surprised Audi would put out the TSB and then just let it hang out there as a "known issue".

Just had my car into the dealership for a very similar issue. No codes. However, when they tested the fuel pump it was not operating within spec.

After the pump was replaced, my hard start issue was resolved.

I already went through that with Audi last year, new pump, cam, follower. I'm doubting it's that bastard again.

Ouch. Could be clogged valves. Look for some off the vwvortex pics of open engines. The deposits get nasty!

Kind of off topic, but has anyone ever used seafoam in a B7?

My 05 A4 w/3.2 does this almost daily. 20% of the time it will actually not turn over. Second try will fire right up. I've been back and forth with the dealer and even called Audi Customer Care. It's embarrassing to have an Audi that only starts on the first try 80% of the time. I'm going to leave it with them for a week this month.

Good to know I'm not the only one.... I didn't think to ask about it, since there were no codes, and it would always fire up. I just hate when it hangs then the starter baby grinds....ghey.

I've had this cold start issue since I bought the car new. The dealer did a software update in 2007 which alleviated it for a little while, but the same problem is back again. It always takes at least two to three tries to start the car if it hasn't been driven in 48 hours. My car only has 13,000 on it, and I also have the notorious TDI chatter sound once I have driven the car for a few hours. My warranty (4 years/50k) miles runs out in about 8 months.

On a side note, a good friend who owned an 05 A4 2.0T Q had the same issue, and the car would not start at all. He had it towed to the dealer Knopf in Bethlehem Pennsylvania, and they apparently replaced his coil packs, and reflashed the ecu. Two days later, he parked the car, went into a restaurant and came outside to find his car on fire. They took the car back, and he never found out what exactly went wrong. His insurance company cut him a check ,and he bought an E46 M3. [confused]

I still have this same issue. I have a buddy thats a tech for VW and he found a TSB and it said it needed to be updated with new software so i got it updated and it still hesitates to start. So i dunno what the problem is. Im kinda over it now and just say "it is what it is" but i do feel kinda embarrassed when im sitting in a parking lot and my car is cranking and cranking and finally starts.

Same problem. When it's below 50 F outside, it takes 4-5 seconds to start, but starts every time. Then I get the starter "grinding" noise very often. Audi nows about it, but has no fix. Woooooo.

when it's freezing put mine does that as well and I only have 18k miles on it. Brought it up to the tech, all they said is that they could not replicate it.
