Floor jack

So I bought one of these...

but when I test fit it on the pinch weld it looks like it's going to push right up against the plastic that's covering the rocker panel. I don't want to crack it. Did I get the wrong thing [=(]

Do the people who recommend it crack the plastic around the rockers though? I need something for my floor jack too, but don't want to damage the rocker panels.
Where do the dealers position the lift pads on the hydralic lifts they jack ones car up on to do service work?
