That is one big turbo. And as I was looking at your sig list, why 81.5mm pistons?

I started with a NEW block and the oem bore is 81mm and my buddy was doing the machine work for free so I just had him put a .5 overbore.. Im just a firm believer in thick walls when big boost in the works.. Not that im planning on throwing big boost or anything [:D]

Nice having a spare engine to save on downtime. Nice downpipe. Did you make it yourself? And is it silver thermal coated with the exhaust housing of the turbo thermal coated in black? I want money, so I can do a build[:(].

The Dowpipe is a 034 Stainless piece and we polished it. The turbo manifold and turbo hot side is Ceramic powder coat and the cold side is polished out.

That's one huge turbo there.
I agree with keeping the cylinder walls as thick as possible. With forced induction the extra 200 cc's you could go don't make as much difference as on a n/a motor. Thinner walls also means the engine runs hotter with big boost.
Can't wait to see this bad boy running.

^Good info. But unless the person is constantly in boost (ie track car), it should not really cause issues (if any). Other than having a poorly built engine and not having that much room to work (boring again) with if you plan on rebuilding it, if cylinder walls get messed up.

LOL. 6 years running 83.5mm bore and up to 37psi with zero issues.
More displacement on a turbo means a wider power band, pushing the turbo to its max, more tq and more peak hp. Well unless a small turbo is being used which can be maxed out with less displacement.
Even Jordan showed that more displacement on a GT2871r made a big difference.

Hey Mike can I get in the club yet? I dont how my turbo size ranks on your guys scale but I think it at least qualifies for BT. ;)

Yes, pretty much anything bigger then a K04 can get in.

I agree Mike, to an extenct.
But manufacturer's have used slightly smaller bores with their turbo models for years.
2,226cc turbo Vs 2,309cc n/a.
1,781cc turbo vs 1,984cc n/a.
Cosworth also did the same on their 2,0 16V turbo motors in the Sierra and Escort turbo;
1,993cc turbo Vs 1,998cc n/a.
Lot's of other manufacturer's like Volvo, Saab, Renault, Citroen and Peugeot also went the same route, in order to maintain cylinder wall thickness. Some went with slightly bigger blocks when they applied forced induction to their larger capacity blocks, so the cylinder wall aspect ratio remained the same as the smaller capacity versions, larger in terms of block length and width.
I get your point with having a wider power band though.

That looks like it will be a very good time! Right now I'm assembling the pieces for a 2008cc 10-1 compression build on my Jetta. I will be running a Pag Parts 3076r 63ar v-banded turbo setup. The high compression, and increased displacement will keep it a nice driver.. Because when its done I will be tossing the keys to my wife, and starting a B5 project for myself.. She sold her Z06 a couple years ago when we bought the house, and is aching for some power..
