entirely in vinyl.

opinions?

it's possible for one person to do it, but for it to come out a pro finish..eh not so much. i dont want to pay over 3k just to have this stuff wrapped, when i can do it myself for less.

flame on. [evilsmile]

If you are going to wrap your car pay a professional, so that it comes out looking perfect and can be taken off without damage to your paint.

damn i swear i came across it one day .. it was in the thousands.

i mean if you wrap a car with vinyl yourself, what could you possibly do to damage the paint?

as for what type of vinyl - vinyl especially made for wrapping cars and is weatherproof =D

a little while ago i posted a poll about painting my car. Eskimopunk threw in the idea of my wrapping in vinyl to save $$ on a full paintjob.

basically, the only reason to wrap is that it has the potential (supposedly) to look as good as a new paint job at about a tenth of the price.

the white would look great. wrapping it yourself seems sketch, but best of luck

true. plus you could always just peel it off if you sell, grow out of it, etc.

vinyl sheets are pretty cheap. labor is a bitch. i'd rather not spend that much $$ on labor

was just thinkin about it for awhile. i mean if i had the time to do it, i mean a lot of time, i think i could make it work. matte/flat white body + gloss black roof.

Seems like it would be prone to looking like crap through normal wear and tear.

actually the benefit of getting it wrapped is that you can always take it off before you sell the car.
Plus when you repaint a car, its never as good as stock paint. You always see ripples nad air bubbles in the paint.

i got a quote from Skinzwraps last october when i first saw that flat black RS4 Avant. they quoted me $2800 and a 2 week turnaround... too expensive and too slow. cut both of those numbers in half and i would've done it.

It's also a badass idea because if you ever want to rob a bank, get vinyl, rob a bank, then drive into an alley and rip it all off and drive away safely, just like in Taxi with Queen Latifah, and my favorite Gisele Bündchen :)

there are a few cars in my area that are wrapped, a buddy of mine has a CLS63 wrapped in matte white looks like pure sex!! did a good job. another is a cayenne full tech art front clip done in matte black also looks like sex. and the 3rd is an A5 done in matte black looks like shit...i feel the job is half assed. he didnt debadge the rear rings so in between the rings u see the original gloss black pain job. basically if your wrapping yor car it has to look right other wise its not worth it. you can spend 2k to wrap your car but it can come out bad. spend 3 and expect quality. my boy with the CLS spent 3 or 3500 cant remember and its flawless.
also it helps keep the original paint fresh. the wrap does hold up against road hazzards but it can tear.to rewrap the panel is cheaper than it is to repaint it!
ill stop ranting

AudiTFSI3o3

damn guys. Stickercity contacted me back today about the measurements. So on their site they sell sheets of the vinyl 58" x linear foot (come in rolls). The cost you pay is the amount (linear feet) you wish to purchase (~$20/li.ft.). [e.g. 58" x 2ft = $40]. I ran out and made a quick measurement of everything I would need to wrap on the car (hood, roof, trunk, R Bumper, F bumper, F Fenders, R Fenders, and of course L and R Doors) and came up with 58" x 50ft.

If you multiply that up it's 50 x $20 = $1000 for just the vinyl. DAMN. They recommended to me that I should get 58" x 60ft. for their promotion which retails that much for $900. (w/o the promo 58" x 60ft. = $1200)

I originally thought a few hundred was the cost, but right now, that's not the case. What do you guys think? $900 worth of vinyl is something I wouldn't want to do a half-assed job on. However, getting it professionally done (not many shops here in CO that wrap vinyls) would cost even more on top of the $900.

How much would it cost to have it installed by professionals OUT THE DOOR PRICE?

If its like under $2000 id probably do it too, 2 tone, black tone with white vinyl. leaving the roof black.

I saw a quote for a mk4 golf (rabbit to you people!) for around £950 including door shuts, etc.

I'm guessing the A4 would be £1200 or so - I emailed them asking to price up a few options, but they never got back to me...

I have seen that white/carbon fiber mercedes SLR in this thread around hollywood. the job is so good, i thought it was factory.

With that said im considering vinyl rapping if i ever want to change the color of my car, now that i hear they make vinyl rap that looks like paint (not a flat color). I see this as a great alternative if you want to do a custom color but plan to sell the car in the future. Take of vinyl and value of car goes back up to normal.

And for 2-3 grand thats not bad. I color change paint job done right is 5 grand *we are not talking hook ups, just straight up for a quality better than OEM job*

I would love a new paintjob/look for my old, dinged up, custom chipped paint I have now, But if I'm looking at 2000 plus, I would rather just spend that on a new turbo! You can't see the paint if you're going fast enough.

thats not bad, u have to realize that if u got a quote to do the job plus the vinyl is over 2 grand, so a grand in vinyl is pretty normal, maybe u can find a shop that can do it for cheaper, but the price of the vinyl isnt to bad

both the A4 and the SLR... were done at StickerCity in So. California.

I just had an email through from a vinyl wrapping company here in the UK, and here's what they said... thought it might help you/be of interest:

The cost to fully wrap your Audi A4 B7 Saloon in matt black only including chrome grille/window/trim etc is £1,080 including VAT.
To wrap your car in gloss white with a gloss black roof & chrome trim would cost £1,160 including VAT.
And to wrap it in matt rather than gloss would be £1,160 including VAT.

If you would like the door shuts done, this would be an additional £250 including VAT.

My quotation is based on using the very best Avery & 3M materials, so you can be assured that your wrap will look as good as the day they are fitted, for the life of the wrap.

The installation time includes full paintwork preparation prior to the vinyl being applied. We have to ensure that all grease/build-up/wax/silicone is removed with special surface cleaner from the paintwork prior to installation, otherwise the wrap will fail.

i guess when i wrapped my roof it wasn't that great either. i wrapped the roof in a gloss back, but when i went out in the sun it was blue! haha. yeah flat is awesome on either color. i just might do it [up]

P.S. I would very much appreciate it if you guys took your drama and bashing of other members elsewhere. This isn't the place to do it, nor is it cool. C'mon guys.

You talking about those two arguing about enzoballin? Yeah, that's weird. Like when you are hanging out with one of your friends and his wife, and they get in a fight with each other, and they aren't afraid to argue in front of people, and everyone gets uncomfortable except the two arguing.

If you do it, it's worth bearing in mind what the company I got in touch with say about stripping the wax/polish from the paintwork, otherwise your vinyl will not adhere properly.

Alright ive been following this thread for a while so i figured i would get some info for you guys interested in this. I had my vinyl guy install a clear bra on the first quarter of my roof today and above my doors to protect my freshly painted gloss black roof from my roof rack/ fairing for the winter snow season. I asked him pricing and all the details on wrapping while he was working on my car. He told me he does full car wraps in either matte white or matte black (his standard colors) for 2k out the door installed. He said he can do it all in one day thats right you read it right one day for a full wrap on your b7 a4. If I were going to do it i would probably give him two days just to be safe. And to AudiTFSI3o3 if you want to spend a couple days sleeping on an air mattress in so cal while you get it installed let me know you can crash at my pad haha.

Haha no worries man just know thats the kind of price you should be seeing elsewhere. I know he comes in a bit less expensive than most but find some shops near you and use that price as bargaining power haha.

2k is still a lot though, i rather just respray my whole car...

i looked into it before, but was not going to pay 2k for vinyl....it's cool and all, but not worth 2k

The biggest benefit to wrapping vs. full respray is the fact that you dont destroy the resale value of your vehicle. As soon as you change the color of your car you probably drop 10-20% of the resale value. I personally dont really care because i love my A4 and im going to drive it til the wheels fall off.

ya pros and con, but if you do a nice color it might help the resale, say flat black...it might sell a bit more to someone who wants it. The paint job needs to be done perfect though.

to each his own, I would paint and plan on painting in the near future.

wasn't it mentioned somewhere that for a full pro. vinyl wrap job they would need chemicals and what not to remove some of the clear coat so it can adhere properly?

I agree about going paint however unless you find the right buyer aftermarket paint most always creates a loss. The simple fact is most people in the car market fear the durability/quality of the aftermarket paint work. I will eventually be going paint though just like you but its primarily because i want to go wiiiiiiiidebody.

Yep. When I was in Germany years ago, I remember talking to one of my cab drivers about the cabs there. He mentioned that the cream color on most of the cabs is actually a vinyl wrap; that way, when they go to sell the cab, it still retains some of the resale value. Think about it: Would you rather buy a US taxi (think Crown Vic) that's yellow or silver?
