View Full Version : Tire?

Should tires on a 1 1/2 old car with 26000 miles be worn out? Now its the wifes car so it does not get beat on and mostly highway mileage. Dealer telling me she needs new tires on next visit. Now I have a CPO Avant that had brand new Goodyear tires installed and they have 33000 miles on them. When I was in for last service they said my tires looked great and they were wearing fine.[confused]
Are the Pirellis softer tires?

Any thoughts?

Every service they have been rotated and I had a feeling the tires were just crap! Owe and to top it off we had a shimmey in the front and they told me the rim was out of round due to a pothole??????????[confused] 3rd time they needed to rebalance tires so I think the rim was F'd from the factory!

Like everyone else here is saying, Stock P-6s are dog shit. they develop hard spots just from sitting overnight in a parking lot. Car appears to be out of balance in the morning and ok in the afternoon after a few miles. I had great luck with the 17" Toyos I had on my old Saab. So it will either be those or Pilots next.

Depends on the speed rating which is generally tied to the wearability. I have seen B7s with H rated tires and mine has V rated tires. I am having good luck / performance with mine and so far do not share others' experience that they are crap.

Another factor is alignment and rotation -- if the car is driven without yearly / as needed alignment then they will wear faster / unevenly, and may wear out prematurely.

Road surface roughness and many other factors (other than driving habits) can also have an impact. Besides, my A4 is driven by my wife, also a supposed benign driver. However, when I get into the car with her driving, she is not so benign (although she does not hack the car either).

Bottom line -- 1 1/2 years or 26,000 miles means nothing much -- each situation is different. If the tires are down to the wear bars or they are worn unevenly side to side, they need to be replaced. This is not an area you want to scrimp on, since it is all you have between the car and the road.

P6s are shite. I have 20k and mine may not make it though the winter. In tires you get what you pay for. I've always been a fan of Nokyan.

Just wait. I have 23,000 miles on my stock P6's and have a little less than 5/32 left. I can probably make it through the winter with them, but they wore like crazy. And the vast majority of my miles, (like 50%) is made up of long distance trips.
