who pulls their e brake everytime they park their cars...in an automatic?
i do it constantly..only because i hate it when all the pressure gets held on the locking gear, and i feel that it will last longer! [:D] people seemed to be so weirded out by it for some odd reason [confused][confused]!
what do you guys do?

on flat ground, i don't pull the e-brake. if i am parked on an incline/decline, i pull the e-brake - otherwise, there is a clunk when i move it from park to drive...

I don't know the validity of what I'm about to type, but I read it on another car board.
Apparetnly it's a parking brake (vs. emergency brake) for a reason. I guess you're technically supposed to stop the car, pull the parking brake, then put the car in park. Like you stated in your original post, when you feel the car move backward, or forward, or whatever, after you put it in park, you're putting a lot of pressure on those parts. Putting on the parking brake on first alleviates that. (apparently).
I've had plenty of cars, and never had any issues (though all of them were under 100K miles).

I pull my e-brake all the time, I park in the street and Ive seen too many trucks in my neighborhood push cars to get in a parking space. Not that it can stop it, then again SFO is technically one big hill + it became a habit.

Use mine only on hills... FWIW I had a Pontiac with over 230k on it and never used the brake for parking on level surfaces either. Never, ever had a problem...

I cannot leave a car without the ebrake up. I have gone running after my car one time too many. [headbang]
Also, pull brake first to avoid clunks. It may or may not do anything but these things have tempers as is.

i agree with pulling the brake before putting it in park to avoid clunks.
how the hell have you had to run after your car if it was an auto?! (that IS what we're talking about here...) LOL. put it in park, not neutral!! [evilsmile]

I always pull mine, just because I'm in the habit. I used to not pull it on flat parking, but it's easier just to always pull then decided whether to pull.

Everytime. Why have the weight of the car resting on the transmission - even if it is Park.

Wow, I'm so glad I don't have to park on the street. I was parking my GLI out on my street for a while and of course it got backed into on Thanksgiving morning [:D]
Pull my e-brake everytime, just a habit now. Why do they make it so accessible if they don't want you to use it?

I only do it on a hill will an appreciable incline, otherwise not. My mom used to pull the e-brake literally on every park in her 05 Volvo V70 and within a year or two it was practically useless. It was just worn to hell.

if im on flat ground i pull like 2 clicks in but when im at an angle i usually pull hard enough to hold the car snug, i always do this in Neutral. then when its held i put it in park so that there is no pressure on the tranny,

Everytime. Why not? Why risk damage or the car rolling away? E-brake parts are cheaper than transmission parts...

This is the first auto I've owned - its habit for me to pull it every time from almost 20 years of driving stick.
