Of where the diverter valve is located on the 2.0t's? and how to make sure what version I have of the DV? Because I just saw a pic on a VW build that confused me...

It's bolted to the bottom of the turbo. Look straight up under the passenger side of your car where the turbo is.

The DV is located under the car, near the front bumper. You'll need to get the front lifted so you can get yourself under the car.

As for the latest revision, I'd recommend getting the one used in the B8 A4 2.0T since it doesn't use a diaphragm so it technically shouldn't fail ever. The part number should be 06H 145 710 D.

Thanks, as stupid as it may seem I was looking at the wrong part... lol I suspect I'm running an older B version since my car is a 2006 and the DV in the maintenance reccord has never been changed, should I get it warrantied if it shows tears or should I just go out and buy the D version?

Get the D version. No reason to stick with older diaphragm version.

Just by the D version and get the dealer or an independent shop to install it and call it a day.

I also have a 2006 so I probably had revision B as well. I was on my way to NJ one day and the car threw a CEL. Called the dealer a few days later and they replaced it under warrenty. The paperwork showed they put the newest revision on which is 06H 145 710 D.

wow! just replaced my rubber diaphram DV with the newer solid plastic "d" version. The difference is very noticable. I inspected the old dv and could not see any tears or pin-hole leaks. but the difference is boost is very noticable at higher rpms (sorry, not boost gauge so I can not provide specific data for the improvement.) but I trust my butt dyno on this one!

I bought the part, brought it to my dealer, and had him change it with my oil change. The charge for the install was $60 (+ oil change). I know this is easy to do, but I figured I would do the airfilter and plugs (55K mile service) myslelf (and save $600) and throw my dealer the $60 install on the DV.

Need to keep my service guy's happy - I have CPO'd vehicle w/ 55K miles and who knows when I will need to rely on the waranty! [:D]

sorry if this is not what you meant, but you have to remove the DV to look for tears, can't tell by looking at it.

That is good to know, I though tears would be visible from the outside if any!
I guess I'll just go buy a D version and get it installed, see if that makes a difference.

Thank you for the replies, very much appreciated as always!

I figured I'd add to this thread with some information on replacing the old DV with the revised "D" one. It took me about an hour to replace it with underbelly cover and the top screw being the most difficult to undo. Following are the photos of the original DV (recirculation valve). The tears are very obvious with one huge rip very visible. I guess, I was driving with the those minor tears for a while as I was noticing how underpowered the car was.

Here's another one of the diaphragm

and the part number, "B", the original DV, I presume

To take the old one out and put the new one in I had to apply my skills I had acquired in contortionists school back in a day since I was working under the car on ramps. This is the only time I really wished I had short arms. To hopefully help someone who decides to do the job themselves I put, what I found, the optimal ratchet and extension combo. Although, the screws take 5mm allen bit, I used T30 torx. It worked just fine. Here are the pics for anyone who cares. You really need to get your hands in there and position the ratchet combo at the correct angle to perform the task. The screws are not tight in there so it takes no huffing and puffing.

3 inch extension is all you need

Props to illegitimus. I tried doing this tonight and I'm going to drop the $ and have the dealer install the part from ECS. You must have magic powers illegitimus because there was no way for me to get those bolts out. My dealer wanted $128 for the valve so I saved $50 on the diverter cost. I'm going to call it a day on this one. I'll update the new boost pressure once they install the valve.

Thanks! I did not have a choice, really, and needed the car that day. It was one of the tighter places in the car, I must admit though. I figured, if I was able to do this job I can manage the cam follower when the time comes.

I gave it one more shot!! This was not easy by any means. Once you realize you need to contort yourself in to some uncomfortable positions it goes pretty quick.

I found the knuckle joint socket helped a lot for the removal of the three screws. Putting them back in with the extension took 5 minutes.

Thanks Again illegitimus for the inspiration!

Car runs perfect and all the boost is back.

Yep, contorting under the car was the way! Damn, your DV diaphragm looks just like mine, with identical rip on it. Uncanny! I am glad you got it done.

Yeah I've seen several that look exactly like ours. Thanks again!
