I've learned a lot lurking here on AZ since i purchased my 07 A4 3.2L Tip with the S-line package back in June (all options except NAV, TI, and ipod connection). Love the car and the things I've learned on this forum has made me enjoy the car even more- so thanks to everyone for their informative contributions.

No mods yet, but if i do get around to it, it'll probably be only cosmetics and I'll keep the guts the same...that's why i got the 3.2.

I have a question that I haven't been able to find an answer through search yet. On my 07 3.2 with tip, the paddle shifters are not enabled until i push the shifter to the right into tip mode. recently, i had my car in for service and i noticed in my loaner car (08 A4 2.0T) the paddle shifters work even while in 'd' mode.

the previous owner must have been an AZ member because it seems like all the changes that can be made through VAG-COM (disable seat belt chime, disable auto locking, remote windows, are the ones i've noticed so far) were made, unless the knowledge regarding VAG-COM is widely known and available to non-enthusiasts.

I don't know whether the paddle shifter is programmable through the VAG-COM, but could it be that the previous owner also disabled the Paddle shifters in 'D' mode through the VAG-COM or is this a difference between 07 and 08 models?

TIA for your inputs.

I'll try to post pics of my car as soon as i get it cleaned up!

hmmm i have nvr seen that before, not working in drive mode, well heres the vag-com codes that u need to reset it, if that doesnt work than idk

go to the steering wheel module, and go to recode, on the high head ross-tech cable with the new software, it will pop up a coding menu on the side so whatever the code that in your car at the moment, just +1 to the third # from the left. my original code was 02021, the new code 02121. you can do this with the old ross tech software and the ebay cable

My '08 2.0T tip paddles work in D mode, and I didn't have to do anything to enable them to do so. I thought I remembered something the Audi sales guy said about it...maybe it was that '08 was the first year that the paddles worked in D? Not sure if it can be VAG'ed or not.

Strange. I wonder if there's a difference also between 3.2s and 2.0s. Hopefully some other '07 3.2 owners can chime in.

Also, I noticed that the DIS in 'D' mode displays the gear i'm in, but i remember reading in some other post that some tip users had to shift over to tip mode to see the gear the car is in. does anyone else experience gear displays in 'D' mode?

Thanks for this info. Although i don't have a VAG-COM cable, maybe i can find one later and see what the codes say now.

I'm not sure why someone would disable paddle shifters in 'D' mode.
