I have been looking for the parts to do a DDin upgrade but having some issues finding them all with out spending well over $200 so I am thinking about just picking up an aftermaket unit.

Want to see what everyone is using and how they look.

sorry for the crappy cell phone pic and the dusty screen, but this should give you an idea. Also, there are soooooooo many B5 DD threads, you should be able to find a lot of pics by searching..

Mine was installed by the previous owner and it's an old pioneer premier. Colors don't match but the trim color blends in

What did you spend on that and where did you get the bezel?

I made my 1.5 to 1 din converter myself with a piece of ABS plastic and plastic glue. Then bondo'ed and painted it.
Fits nice!

The best bezel your going to get is custom made.. The rest look like crap.

Clarion DXZ835mp. I've had this deck for years and it's been the best thing since sliced bread was invented, unfortunatly clarion long since discontinued it. Teh display is color/contrast adjustable and has much better contrast than it appears in this picture. I'm using a metra adapter and it doesn't fit for sh!t, drives me nutz looking at it and want a different trim piece. I like the fill/bondo/paint idea shown above, maybe I'll try that next.

Alpine CVA-1004. I got it with a 6-disk changer for $75, and then sold the changer for $120 on ebay. I bought the PAC TR-7 video bypass module for $30 and still made $15. Gotta love good deals [cool]. It sucks as there's no CD/DVD drive but I exclusively use my ipod for audio and video.

I love the looks of the factory navi, but it just seems to limited to me for the price. Most I have seen are well over $500 by the time you get them installed. If not more than that. While hot, if I were going to spend $500 I would go with a 6-7" touchscreen or a Car PC.

Although the best OEM option, way overpriced unless you sourced one for cheap.

OP - have you considered a car PC? Components are sooo cheap nowadays, you could probably even just hack up a netbook and get a 7" touchscreen.

I really like the navigation on it. I compared it to a garmin nuvi on a drive from iowa to florida. It choose the same course, calculated ~ the same ETE/A. It is a little harder to use out of the box, but has all the same functions, and once you learn its uber easy to use. Also a huge advantage it has is the navigation voice, it sounds much better than a lady in a box, and it can cut out the radio when it talks. The only downside of the D3 is it uses DVDs for navigation (the newer pioneer units use a HDD). But if you use an iPod or XM that wont effect you at all

Sony CDX-GT930UI -- amazing. So easy to use and the display is really easy to read.

Sorry about the terrible quality pic, took it for the shift surround, happen to see that it had the head unit in it. Surround fits really well too, I got it from crutchfield. Modified it so the usb port and the aux cable for my ipod comes through the little pocket under the unit.

IMO it's better to get a head unit you like, and get a garmin navi so it's separate and you can use it in different cars.
