I have a '97 2.8qm (12V) with a DJP trans. I am having a problem with a loud humming noise when the car is in gear, coasting or accellerating. My question is, can a DJR trans be substituted in place of the DJP? The ratios are the same between the two but will it bolt up?

Thanks ahead of time!

BTW: What size allen fits the rear diff fill plug. I thought it was 17 like the trans but I was wrong.

any manual quattro b5 2.8 and 1.8t transmissions will fit. all b5 2.8 tranmissions have similar gearing. anything with an 01A bellhousing and quattro should bolt right in.

Another question. Say I get the better gear trans for the 1.8T (DJJ) to use in place of my DJP. The DJJ uses a 228mm clutch plate diameter and the DJP uses a 240mm diameter. Will this still work?

Here's where I'm getting my info:

You can use a 1.8t transmission, but I believe you might have to get a different bracket.

What bracket? Can I use this "bracket" from my existing trans?

EDIT: I think I see what you are talking about. Are you speaking for the trans mount brackets? Can the 6-cylinder mounts be bolted to the 4-cylinder trans?

Yes they can.

Thats gangster. The 1.8T trans gearing will benefit my 2.8L much.

It looks as if everything else will bolt up without issues.

Thanks alot!

Yes you can, no bracket is needed. Your 2.8 has a different subframe than a 1.8T but the trans mounting points are the same so you just put your 2.8 mounts on the trans and it goes right in.

FYI, ALL 5-speed A4 transmissions are interchangable from 93-05. There are minor differences between B4/B5/B6 that I showed here.
