View Full Version : Where do you put your cell phone?

I just picked up a BlackBerry 8830 - awesome phone - loving every minute of it. However, I don't know where to put it when I'm driving. I tried to put it below the temperature readouts, but it slides all over the place. I also tried to put it where the cigarette lighter would be - that worked for a bit, but it slid out when I took a couple of corners.
Any ideas? What do you do with your phone when driving? If it is an external piece, or something aftermarket, I need it to look clean.
Thanks for the input!

i put my iphone in the card holder tray, pop the tray out and like it stand there and lean against the vent. works perfectly and doesnt fall out, even around tight corners.

Interesting...I never thought about that one. I wonder if my BB might be too wide for that. I will have to check it out.

Cup holder. They sell these weird things to clip onto your vents to hold your phone, but my cup holder works just fine. Do you guys drive around with two beverages everwhere you go?
In my H3, i had this really cool rectangular rubber thing, that i could put my cell phone on, so that it wouldn't slip. I would imagine you could use that and put the phone infront of the shifter, ontop of the cigarette thing. It was like $5 and they sell them at best buy and Target.

If I don't have it docked in my spec dock then its in the cup holder or my pocket. I can tell you now that your Blackberry won't fit in the card holder tray.

if i have the rubber case on it i put it on the center console between the dash and the shifter.. if there is no rubber case on it goes in my pocket or the cupholder

i put mine in the armrest. cupholder my phone flies all around.
I leave it on the closed ashtray lid, with a rubber case the phone does not slide around at all. Occasionally I open the ashtray and prop it up in the coin tray.

When I had the phone condom, I would put it in on top of the ash tray door. Now that it's naked I either put it in the cup holder or stand it up between the end of the e-brake and shifter part of the center console. I can take a pic later if need be.

my blackberry goes in the cupholder. I stand it up between two of the adjusting slots and it fits without moving...If that's occupied, I throw it on the passenger seat or in my pocket.

For what it is worth, I put mine in the rear cup holder, or on the passenger seat, but when the phone is in the car, it is almost always connected to the car charger. It will only slide around so much like that.
But not to be a stick in the mud, but for the most part, I hardly ever use it when I am driving. I hate talking on the phone while driving. It makes me want to punch people in the throat when I look in the rear view mirror and see a phone in their hands and the surprise in their eyes as they slam on their brakes to avoid rear ending me. I have even used the excuse that it was on vibrate and I did not hear it just to get out of talking when I was driving. On most military bases, they will fine you if driving on base and talking on the phone.

if its small enough that 'cardholder' in the top by the hazard light switch,
cup holder works for me
ash tray
compartment under the drivers seat
send it! and let gravity find a resting place
have your GF hold it
passenger seat
glovebox ipod adapater + bluetooth
in the door compartment so when it vibrates it makes a loud noise
backseat
map pockets (albeit not the best)
floor
pocket of your favorite jeans
shirt pocket (if your all business-y) (doubles as hands free if you can speaker phone that jawn)
rubber band around your head, for ghetto hand free
roof of your car, if your ballsy
enough?

fuse box (for extra stealthy people)
hanging from a string on your center mirror (i am really stretching this)

phone + wallet in front cup holder. Apparently sitting for long periods on a wallet in your back pocket could lead to scoliosis
I used to do the card tray (snapped the front off, so my phone slides fully into the dash like a cubby), but recently got a Tetrax magnet clip. It has a small button that adheres to the back of your phone (picture a typical snap button from a jacket, 10mm wide and maybe 2mm tall), and this thing below mounts to the vent. You twist the magnet part tighter, and the arms pinch down, holding it in place. I love it.
Looks like they came out with an X-attachment to stabilize bigger phones? Google search shows they also have a sticky version that you attach wherever. I think I got mine at k-mart, I'll take a pic at lunch if it stops raining.

I personally cant stand having anything in my pockets while im in the car. S the pocket is ruled out for me, i agree with the vibrating testicles placement for your cellular device. Or you could just set throw it wherever the Fuk it lands and let it slide around. I loved my BB at first until it stopped working then i could care less where it ends up in the car.

I have an iPhone and it fits perfectly angled up on the ash tray. So it's laying on it's side with the ashtray door open using the top of the flip up to support it so it's angled where I can see it. Hard to explain but it's perfect, screen goes sideways and can glance down quickly to check it out.
