hey guys, i've found a socket next to the back ashtray under the flap and do not have a clue what it is for. i've checked all my manuals and there does not appear to be any reference to it. any idea's?

it looks almost identical to this:

Probably the OBDII test port... You hook up an OBD scanner to it if you are getting a CEL and will throw out codes...

It is an On-Board-Diagnostic test jack... Basically if you are throwing any codes or if you Check-Engine-Light is on, then you hook up a scanner to that jack and it will tell you the problem with your car... It is mainly an emissions type thing... Basically if you have a failure with one of your sensors it will tell you...

yeah they were back there for 96s and some 97s. After that they moved it under the dash where most cars have them. Even the newer b5s still have the little cover with the picture of the engine back there...just no plug.

yea is the diagnostic hook up for sure. mine in uder the steering wheel since im 2001.

so THATS why on my 2001 theres that cover back there.... geez, that has had me wondering for a couple years. haha.
