Sooo got my ebay short shifter (the B&M knockoff) in the mail on Friday and decided to throw it in today. Took me about 2 hours to get everything together. One word to describe it... unreal... everything is very tight, shifts smooth, and is hella short. The feel is great. Just wanted to let everyone know just in case anyone was contemplating getting one... do it. Thats all... laterrrr [up][up]

I don't understand.... I hate short throws soooo much. I shift so much better w/o one. Specially the ones that are ridiculously short.

There is an adapter kit that removes the passenger seat and relocates the transmission there if you really want an "efficient" short shifter.

Heres the DIY:

Ughhh, short shifters don't belong in cars, they are not in drag cars, not in road course cars, not in any sort of real performance cars, and to top it off put more strain on the tranny. I hate em. I got an exstension on the stock shifter, and gotta get around 2 replacing the bushings to remove the lil slop I got.

i know when i did a short shit in my friends a4 with the ebay kit, there is 3 holes to where you can set it how far the shifter sits down and how long the throw is, you can also get a taller shift knob to offset the short feel but retain the tight shifting

Yeah teh ebay shifter is absoltely great. I had an authentic B&M one is my bros and a knockoff in mine and absolutely the same. I also drove a JHM one and it was actually worse then the ebay one although easier to throw. It was very vague. Some of which is personal preference but for 13 bucks who can beat the knockoff.

And to the one who says they shouldnt be on a car. You obviously dont know how companies like B&M and hurst started then huh? They most certainly do belong in performance cars, Real performance cars already have this feature built in. Most really fast drag cars are auto but even then they do shifting mods as well. And I know plenty of drifters, road course goers etc who use them. I love mine because I know when it engages, its shorter, and tighter as well. I do road course and draging. And it is a myth they put more wear on your tranny. If they are instaleld right without pretension nothing is affected. You can hurt your syncros etc just as easily with a stock shifter slamming into gear (or missing one because you dont feel the gears as much).

Looks good. I am waiting to get this. I have herd enuf good reviews. And for the price it cant be beat. I think i may order from the main site if i can find it again if the shipping is less.

I like to think that instead of going out to lunch with your girl one day....just use the money on this thing. Lol, its only $30 at the end of the day that your going to spend anyway. Not to sound like i wipe my ass with bills but.....you get the idea. Anyway, cant wait to order mine. Good Stuff.

I installed one last week. I don't like the fact that the metal ball that moves, makes a clanging noise when shifting. Otherwise I really like it.

I think it took about 2 or 3 days to ship... Also i didnt have to use the metal ball... im thinking because of my car being equipped with the push down reverse? so no clanging with me [up]

Very cool. I'm going to try possibly siliconing or using rtv to either eliminate or reduce the metal on metal clanging.

You can eliminate the push down reverse by not inserting the t-fitting! Had mine for two years and also the best and cheapest mod I did.

I went ahead and got one as well, why not for $30 shipped.

Make sure to use the lock washer with the ebay kit where the two pieces of the kit connect, I forgot on mine and weeks later the nut fell off while on the road(no tools)....had to get it towed. After that I put my Stratmosphere SS back on with the elastic stop nut.

Great i had been debating getting one. I will most deffanitly order one. And to the guy that was bitching about them not being needed and or not used on a race car. i don't think i could express just how hard i was laughing when i read that. He clearly has not raced anything and knows nothing about true performance driving. if they wern't used in racing then why does the SCCA solo 2 rules clear tell you what class adding one puts you in. if they did nothing to help you turn in a faster time why would adding one bump you up into a harder class.

I just installed my JHM. doing other stuff so havn't driven it yet but i have heard it is by far the best SS and best quality. Its not cheap but I don't put cheap things into my car. This ebay one likes like a hell of a deal for 30 bux! kinda wish I got it, will let you guys now how the JHM works out.

I installed mine tongiht, took me about an hour or so.

All I can say is WOW, really firmed the shifting up and def is a lot shorter. I went with the middle setting and it feels damn near perfect. I do not see how the JHM(sp) could be worth nearly $300 when this shifts so firm and smooth.

I spend some time adjusting everything and making sure all the gears went in correctly. The knob comes back to center perfect just like stock.
