View Full Version : recipe for cleaning coolant expansion tank??

im pretty sure it was on the zine but someone had a recipe of like stones/small rocks and degreaser and swish them around to clean the inside of the coolant tank, anyone have any tips, i cant find the thread. i wanna give this a try before i buy a new one or buy a b6 sytle one

i hear egg shells work well... but make sure you get a good rinse

I tried the small pebbles and degreaser................ Ended up stealing my g/f's tank LOL.

they are like 30 bucks.. no matter what you do to that thing it will never look as good as a new one

Yea, its true. A clean one really makes the engine bay look nicer and newer.

You can get a B6 coolant tank and modify it to fit. It was $20 shipped.

but $20 is cheaper where did you buy yours? looks liek the b6 one is a little more box shaped at the front of it

What has to be modified?

You have to make a tab for it. The B6 reservoir snaps into the firewall. The B5 one has screws that hold it down.

This is what I did.

I bought mine through ECS tuning. They had two for the B5 one is $36 and the other is $29. I don't know why the B6 tank is $19....
