arite before you get flamed, Heres the thing... this question has been answered 584920 times... you cant mod a v6 at all.. most you can do is exhaust, intake, small things like that. Do yourself a favor and buy a 2.0T. With just a $550 chip from GIAC REVO or APR it would be even faster than the v6

the 2.0 gets more mpg, handles a little better, is easier to fix, and when comparing cost to hp its way cheaper to get much more power.
as for mods for a 3.2 being hard to find. have you tried looking? you can supercharge it, you can get headers for it. you can get intakes for it, probably all the silly bolt ons are available from pullies to cams.
its nice your parents will buy you an audi, a new one none the less, but the insurance and cost of maintaining it are going to be through the roof for a 17yo. not to mention if you crash an sline or bang the rims up or the usual crap that happens with an inexperienced driver, id hate to see it happen to a nice new sline. you should get a b5 2.8 quattro, or start with a jetta 24v gli. the jetta is newer, the insurance and maintence will be less, and smaller and easier to drive. probably jsut as fast. the b5 is a 6000 dollar car you can almsot afford to trash and almost as fast as a b8 3.2 since it weighs about 1500 pounds less.
theyre also cop magnets, especially when driven by younger guys.

There are no mods for the 3.2 because it's N/A. There are mods for the 2.0T because it has a turbo (notice the T after 2.0). Everyone usually goes for the 2.0T because it's cheaper, lighter, more fuel efficient, with a chip (~$500) it's faster then the 3.2, and it is moddable. And for the 0-60 times, just google it, you'll find it.

the 3.2 sc is nice, i installed one on a customers car. but even after i dialed in the w/m injection my s4 spooled up and said goodbye. probably made him really happy about the bill he got. the weak point is the manifolds but he wasnt going to pay me what i wanted to do them, then it probably would have been able to tow my car away.
the 3.2 doesnt have mods people can afford... that doesnt mean there arent things to do to it.

HUH... put the pipe down bro.. just a chip will not make it faster.. i know because i have had both.. i got rid of my 2.0t for the 3.2 and i can tell ya the 2.0t with apr is not faster... maybe after 2 grand put into it.. also 0 to 60 times is goin to be diff on every a4 depending on if its autocrap, manual, quattro, fwd... if you have the cash just push the button and tell ur parents to cosign on a new S4... tell them its got a combined fuel economy of 29mpg and its all wheel drive safe :-)

look around buddy... a4a4a4 said the same thing... a chipped 2.0T puts out 210 wheel horsepower... the 3.2 puts out ~205... but the chipped 2.0T puts out a lot more torque

bro i love the 2.0t its a great engine lots of potential... but i have personally taken down a cvt 2.0t stage 2 fwd and an mkv gti... im always down to test a 2.0t chipped manual with quattro but havnt even ran into 1... i went from the 2.0t to the 3.2 because i was tired of how many problems i had with mine... again i had one of the first 2.0ts not the newer ones... If you wana say that it can be made faster.. yes it can... but i cant agree with ya that just a chip will make it faster especially since i have been in that situation and seen the outcome...

n/a = naturally aspirated. no forced induction (ie turbo or supercharger). this makes it difficult to mod.
as stated before, the 2.0t is a better buy: turbocharged, lighter, cheaper, more fuel efficient, easy to chip and make faster. and make sure you don't get a CVT model (automatic front wheel drive). that transmission sucks.

I now have a chip and couldnt be happier with 0-60 times in the high 5's low 6's... while the 0-60 on the 3.2 is 6.5

Just decide and as the question yourself.
Do youlike to mod you car or leave it stock?
If you like to mod, get the 2.0T with some easy mods you will get the same or even better performance out of the engine.
If you like to leave you car stock, get the 3.2. Drives very nice, very limited mods available (or very expensive like a Supercharger sets you back 5K USD).
I'm a 3.0 driver and would not mod my car, so I'm very happy with what I got. Difference I'm 33 and have family and not the nerves to put most time and money in my car. (Even so I wish I could :-))
Do I wish my car had more power, sure. Just like everybody else on here. And believe me most of the guys here might get ~250-300 HP out of the 2.0 (1.8T) and still believe it's not enough.
By the way my estimate:
2.0T 0-60 is at ~7.4 stock
3.2 0-60 ia at ~6.5 stock

Forced induction is very addicting. Once you have it, you will crave the boost.[hail] My 2.0T 6MT has an APR chip, Stasis exhaust, and CAI and is certainly not the fastest car but it does put a simile on my face when I drive it and it can handle it's own. Combined with Stasis Ohlins coilovers and RS4 sway, it corners pretty well too.
The 3.2, on the other hand, with an aftermarket exhaust will have a very pleasing exhaust note. Maybe not as nice as an R32 or 4.2 S4, but still very nice. All in all, you will be happy with Quattro, whether a 2.0T, 3.2 or 4.2. I can't imagine driving anything else, especially on rainy days.

First of all horsepower isn't everything. Weight, torque, and many other factors also affect how fast a car is.
Chipped Audi A4 2.0T = 255hp, 290 lb.ft according to Revo
Audi A4 3.2 = 255hp, 243 lb.ft

Unitronic does make a "chip" for the 3.2FSI. I'm going to get it. By the way, I know that even with the chip and intake, a moderately modded 2.0T will still be faster than my car. Torque is very important in making cars fast and the 3.2 feels like it is missing some.

what is matt? is that like awhp or something? [confused]
You need to read the FAQ as well!!! matt stands for Motor Automatic Transmission Turbo, and if the last T is red the whole motor comes painted in red

2.0T for Modding, 3.2 for out of box power
0-60 - 2.0T - Approx. 7.3
0-60 - 3.2 - Approx. 6.5
THREAD CLOSED
BTW, I'm 17 also and fortunate to be able to get a new A4, but you can't come on asking the same question in your own thread that you think the 3.2 is better but were telling you the 2.0T is better to modify. As much as you may want the 3.2 to be better to mod, it ain't! Not trying to be rude but do some research. I've been researching B7 A4's since I was 15 knowing that, that was my dream first car at the time. Read, Read, Read!

I would get the 2.0T and then just buy the 3.2 Badge and put it on the back of your car. That way you will get the extra hp from the 3.2 engine, but also have the turbos still for a quick boost. This will give a much higher 0-60 time imo

I am also looking to buy a B7 A4, and I am still deciding between the 2.0T or the 3.2. The search function does not seem to work for me when I search for 2.0T vs 3.2. Other searches seem to work fine eg six cylinder

buy the 3.2 and dont waste all your money throwing it into a 2.0, i had a 2.0 loaner and i personally thought it was a joke how underpowered it is, for off the showroom floor performance go with the 3.2 and it sounds like u got a nice one in mind... sorry to all you 2.0 people, i just prefer my engine over yours

It's okay because i know that all of us certainly prefer our engines over yours.[:D]

Don't remember seeing this post. Anyway, yeah, I can totally understand your personal preference. To each his own and I won't deny the FEW positives of the 3.2L engine, but talking about "wasting" money on modding a 2.0T is just ridiculous, not to mention flat out wrong. Price out an all things equal packaged 3.2 and 2.0T + engine mods in my signature and they will be about the same money (if not the 2.0T being a little less). At that point the 2.0T will walk all over the 3.2 in every aspect save for the exhaust note. Sorry man, it's the truth and you know it.

Okay, let's all calm down a little.
For the OP: One point no one seems to mention is the smoothness of the 3.2. I too had a recent 2.0 loaner. The engine was significantly rougher than the 3.2. After driving my 3.2 daily, the 2.0 felt like a shaky diesel. And I would expect that none of the mods would smooth it out, so it would always be rougher than the 3.2.
So anyway, I like the 3.2 way better. But I'm not into mods. I just wanted to buy it and move on. And I really appreciate a smooth engine. That's my taste. I'm not into racing my DD, so the 3.2 is plenty satisfying. BTW, the stock 3.2 is faster than most of its category competitors. So from a performance standpoint, you're still getting a great car. You're just unable to get any more out of it than that. If that's enough for you, you're golden.
Agreed: 2.0 for mods; 3.2 for stock. But make sure you drive both. Don't just look at numbers. Make sure the experience satisfies you.

lol, you realize you can't judge any car based on a loaner right? Loaners are beat the $h*t, people drive them like they're stolen, they get massive refurbishing before resale at reduced prices. My dealer provides 2.0T A4 loaners during service intervals and holy hell they feel like they're dieing, even the low mileage '07s.

One thing not really mentioned is the fact that boost is fun. NA engines have a lot of advantages but to me they are boring compared to that nice whoosh of power that a turbo brings. The 3.2 has some grunt but the 2.0T is way more fun to drive for me.

Can't deny that. But I push mine constantly. I don't think any loaners are driven any harder than I drive mine, other than hitting curbs and whatnot. Of course, I don't ride it at 6,500 all the time either. Point is, loaner or not, you can still compare cars. The roughness I felt in the loaner was not a result of abuse. It's a 4 cylinder - what are you gonna do?
Anyway, the 3.2 is way smoother than the 2.0, loaner or not. The 2.0 will beat the 3.2 after some mods. But it will never be as smooth. That's my point to the OP. If he doesn't care about smoothness and wants more acceleration, then he should get the 2.0.

Everyone was so cool on this forum until the 2.0 vs. 3.2 threads began. Maybe it's best to just avert my eyes next time one comes up.

haha if you think the 2.0 is underpowered that 3.2 is wayyyyyy under powered IMO i drove both and i was pain full to drive the 3.2 it had no "GO!' i was testing stick's so maybe thats where the problem lays cause the loner car (Auto) i had felt nothing like my silky smooth 2.0t ;)

Maybe it got the attention of some of us who don't bother to post for any number of reasons. I agree with your points.
We all have different priorities and POVs, but sometimes that is completely lost here in AZ. Unfortunately at precisely that time the usefulness of the thread nosedives into the gutter.
My 2 cents ...

You need to read the FAQ as well!!! matt stands for Motor Automatic Transmission Turbo, and if the last T is red the whole motor comes painted in red
Damn, I thought it was Multi Alternating Twin Turbo and the red T was what defined this from the stock K03 cars... back to the FAQ for me!!
