View Full Version : EPC Stall... Safe to Drive?

Hey guys, Two days ago when driving home my EPC light came on, felt a big sloggish but when I started it up the next morning it didn't come on. Today, while commuting to work I was sitting at a stop light when the Idle crashed, car stalled and it took a little bit for it to turn back on. I know without a code, I am not worth much, I just wanna get a clue what may be going on and if it is safe to drive it.

A faulty MAF can cause the EPC light to come on , as well as a few other items. A scan is essential for diagnosis.

You could unplug the MAF and see if it feels any better, the light will come on as the MAF is unplugged obviously, but the car may feel/start better

I had the EPC light on, with the exact same symptoms (stalling at intersections, wouldn't crank over), and it was due to a faulty Engine Speed Sensor. I managed to pull the code while the EPC light was still on, which came up as:

Engine speed input circuit no signal

Should be OK to drive, just never know when it's going to stall out next.

Hope this helps!

PS. EPC stands for Electronic Power Control. Almost always indicates an electrical issue.
