Where'd you get it? I would love that for my long road trips. I like it, but looks a bit weird for a car color other than black. My car's black...:)

Not my style unless you're on a road trip.
Nice car though[up]

Looks pretty terrible... Also, on my car most of the rock chips are on the bumper, which this bra obviously doesn't protect. The only time I would rock that bra is if I was going on an hour+ highway road trip. On that note, the next car I get is going to get the clear bra treatment immediately because my A4 is rock chipped to hell.

I say no. I've heard that bras like that can cause a whole lot more damage than they can save. They can rub the clear coat which by itself would be bad, but if any dirt gets between the bra and the paint, and it starts rubbing, then that could be terrible. Another thing I've heard is that it can hold water on the paint, which can also be bad. It also causes uneven sun exposure. If it is on for a long time, then that part of the hood will not fade while the rest will. You then couldn't take it off, even if you had a good clear coat on your car, there will be a nice 'tan' line.
There are clear vinyl bras out there that seem like they should fight off rock chips without having these problems. I would think they'd also look much cleaner...

it's more likely to damage your paint then protect it. if you are looking for protection go with the clean bra (3M, etc.)

I got it from ebay for only 70 bucks.
You´re all right with your opinions. I´m also afraid about issues with the paint.
I think I will use it only for fun on tuning events.
Thank´s for your advice.

I got a clear bra and I'm about to take it off. IMO it looks like shit on my black car. The whole front half of my hoof looks faded and orange peel. Plus I can't clean the bugs off of it. They just wont come off.

i use a vinly bra (colgan custom) when i go for long roadtrips, and daily 60 mile roundtrip to/from work. best quality material i think, since i couldnt afford a clear bra. it may diminish the aesthetics of the car, but does saves it from hard nicks and scratches. I dont use them when raining.
colgan manufactures proper fitted bras for most brands.

You must have gotten a cheap bra then. I have a clear bra on my car, and it has to be the best $1000 I've spent on the car. I drive through the country all the time living in Wyoming, and the bugs come off with a simple wipe.

I have the 3M clear bra on my brilliant black A4 - fantastic investment. Impossible to tell it's even on the car unless you are right up next to it. I've had it for almost 3 years now and no peeling or warping/discoloration. My only complaint would be that it's hard to get the bugs off of it in the summer. I swear those little guys melt into it.

you have to think of rock chips as a beautiful thing. Rock chips mean the car is being put to use and being driven. :D

I must have, although I thought I was getting 3m. I paid $800.

in the looks department, it's a major fail.

Nothing like repeating what's been said but...
I put a bra (fitted, not a cheap one) on my last car for one road trip driving from NS to FL. It did save me from a few rock chips, but there was also small particles of dirt that worked themselves under the bra. It went down past the clearcoat, into the base! It was a royal pain to touch up and repair, I would never use one again.
It didn't even rain, can't imagine how bad it would have been then. IMO, 3M or nothin'!!

The outer edges of my 3m turned yellow but the rest held up great. Edges looked BAD on graphite and woulda looked much worse on black. It was on for 4 years though, what's the life on those things?

I had a bra on my Maxima for years, never had any of the issues you describe. The smart thing to do is wax the shit out of the area the bra will sit on regularly. That knocks out the moisture problem. As far as the pain fading, that's kinda hit or miss. I never had an issue, but I have seen other cars that have that issue.
As far as you clear bra claim. The clear bra can chip and it looks like shit when it does. Also, if you wax your car, good luck getting the bra line not to show, cause it will get trapped on the line between where it begins and your exposed paint ends. Then you have a lovely white line on your car forever. They can also discolor and/or crack, which looks like shit as well.

Did you clean the front end at least before putting the bra on? I bet the dirt that was already there cause this problem. It's aerodynamically not feasible for dirt to have "worked" its way under that bra during a single use on a road trip. The wind is going over the car from front to back, unless you're living in some parallel universe with different physics that I'm not aware of.

Trust me, they do.

See my first response. The idea here is that you're NOT going to leave it on for extended periods of time. With the proper prep work (that doesn't take that much effort), you really don't have to worry about this.
Also, on my car most of the rock chips are on the bumper, which this bra obviously doesn't protect.
I live in Quarry town, I had them all over (before I had it touched up) my hood. Having a lowered car doesn't help this situation either.

Here comes davis449 again to argue with everyone in a thread...[;)]. Just playing with you.
I only said what I've heard or read from other people's experience with the vinyl bras. I am curious about yours though. Did you always have the bra on, or did you just use it for long trips? Did you garage your car, or was it left in a parking lot/driveway constantly exposed to sun and UV rays?
If properly maintained (like everything) vinyl bras will do no damage at all. The only issue is there is added maintenance a lot of the time (extra wax, taking on and off, etc.)

I know you're playing around...I'm not here to argue. It's the tendency of a lot of people in this forum to use the phrases "I heard..." or "I had...once and it did...damage to...", so no one should EVER do it, like whatever it is they've seen is how it ALWAYS will be. Just in this thread alone, we've heard stories both for and against clear bra...it's not ALWAYS going to happen one way.

On my Nissan, it was on all the time. Sat outside during the day, all day, in both Houston and West Texas (lots of sun) and was garaged at night. I properly maintained it...which as I've stated already wasn't that much work. I washed the car every week like the anal person I am, so I was always able to check for damage and make sure the paint was fine. I think I stripped the wax and re-did it every 6 months.
When I eventually purchase a bra for my Audi, it will only be used on long trips (150+ miles) to keep off the rocks and bugs. I'm sick of using painter's tape.[headbang]

I'm glad someone understands that a good quality bra (vinyl or otherwise) does lessen chances of damages to your car's front end. When I'm too lazy to put the bra on my A3, the few days that i drive w/out it to work and back- shows how much damage it sustains (from little nicks/pocks/scratches).. for those that knows the 118 freeway along simi valley calif, to the 5north (golden state to valencia/santa clarita) it is constantly laiden with dump/constructions trucks... I've used colgancustom bra for my 92 gti, my 99 passat, and now my 07 a3. AS mentioned above, if you follow simple steps before using the bra, it does what it is supposed to do- protect your front end (of your car that is). I'm currently using a 'carbon-fiber' look vinyl bra.
