View Full Version : Torn Axle Boot...?

Hey guys

Well my front passenger axle boot is torn. I was changing my brakes 2 weekends ago and noticed grease all over the inside of my rim so I looked around and to my surprise, BAM, a torn boot. [=(][=(]

Now its been two weeks, and I havent noticed any strange sounds indicated a shot axle, so I called my local Import garage and they quoted my $309 for parts and labor. Is this decent? I guess it could be worse if my axle was shot, which would be closer to probably $600 for an axle replacement, but have you guys even DIY'd this or anything of that nature?? I figure the boot just tore within the last two months as my stock winter rims dont show any signs of grease and I took them off in the beginning of April so hopefully thats the only issue.

So, is $309 a solid price?? ($235 labor + $51 parts)

if you ask me....thats way too much to pay for the. Its an easy fix if you can wrench. Just buy the boot and replace it yourself. its not that hard. the boot itslef runs for less than $50 bucks. You safe yourself at least $250.

dont you have to remove the whole rotor and brake components??

basically, how many hours will it take for a DIY replacement??
