View Full Version : I'm Leaking!

So after my car not being driven for three months I come back and after driving it a little bit discover I have a leak on the passenger side near the front.

Now I first thought it was oil, until I found where it was coming from and also my oil is not low at all. BUT my coolant is.

I think I traced the leak back to a spot right next to the passenger side headlight. I have a few questions though, what exactly is this, and what can I do to fix this pesky leak?

On to the pics:

Where I suspect the leak is coming form (right next to the passenger headlight)

From the bottom on the passenger side (taken from the middle looking towards the passenger side wheel)

My belly pan right after I took it off to investigate the leak

Any and all help is very much appreciated [up]

Also on a completely unrelated side note, this is my 1,000th post[az]

Might be a transmission cooler line. Best I can tell it is but the pix are hard to tell where its at. If that indeed is on the radiator its a transmission cooler line though.

It is literally right next to the passenger side headlight, you can actually see part of the headlight in the first picture. It definitely is going into the radiator as well (no other place for it to go me thinks).

Thanks for the help.

it looks like a transmission cooler line. When my transmission was giving out it started leaking from the same lines.. i would get it looked at asap!

Might just be a coolant flange. You can ask 94jedi (sold me my a4 couple years back), we had to replace the coolant flange twice. It is a fairly cheap fix, but I ended up having to buy the new piece directly from audi. Apparently this was an issue with the 1.8t. But my work computer won't load your pics, so I am going off of what you typed up.

I am not aware of any coolant lines that size. Looks like every other transmission cooler line I have seen though.

After referring to the Bently Manual it definitely is the transmission oil cooler line.

Gonna try tightening it, then if that doesn't work I'll be replacing the O-ring. Looks like I'll be springing for a ATF replacement kit as well.

Thanks for the help guys.

In case anyone was wondering or if someone is wondering in the future the cause of the automatic transmission oil leak was due to a bad O-ring in the transmission cooler line.
