Hello, fellow Audi enthusiasts.
I have a question and I can't seem to get a straight answer, even from Audi itself.
I have a 2007 Audi A4 S-line non-bose. I want to upgrade all my speakers. I read something about the door speakers being 6.5 inches. One time I read that the front doors are actually 6.5 inches and the rears are 5.25 inches. Does anyone know the actual sizes of the door speakers, the center speaker, the subwoofer and the tweeters? I'm assuming the tweeters are 3/4 inches.
Thanks for any help provided.

I think Crutchfield's online speaker wizard can help you.

They are 6.5" but you will have to buy spacers for them. thats the same size my VW golf GTI Vr6 had and i had to buy spacers for it. regarding to tweeters, any component speaker should fit in to the door. But yes cheack out crutchfield and they will even tell you that this size will fit your car, and you need to get spacers !
good luck
I will be upgradeing my sounds soon..

They are 6.5 front and 5.25 rear, if i were i would have the doors dynamat first with your standard setup, i promise you will be happy. i had dynamat first with an 8" sub, then i spent alot on speakers and amps and it aint much better. the guy in the shop even told me not to bother...it aint any better!!!

I have not found this to be true in my case. I upgrade from the stock audio to an Alpine amp and Type R components and the sound is significantly better than stock. No dynamat on mine.

you need spacers? i thought the b6 and b7 were the same in this department. I ran MB quart references series on my b6 and i didn't need spacers.

Well, Crutchfield is one of the first places I tried. They knew the door sizes and they said most likely the sub is 8". They didn't know the center speaker size. I tried Best Buy and they knew the tweeters, midranges and sub woofer sizes, but didn't know the center speaker size. The center speaker seemst o be the one size no one knows.

I might give dynamat a try, that's a good idea. I know it's been around for years and sometimes I can hear some rattle on certain songs with the stock system. The system sounds good now, but in my old car I installed the stereo with a couple of amps and I'm kind of spoiled, that's why I will be upgrading all the speakers soon. I really didn't want to add an amp to take up room, but no amp you cabn buy now will fit into the stock amp housing of the A4.

Well, after looking for audi a4 subs on ebay, I think Best Buy and Crutchfield were both wrong when they said the sub was eight inches. I'm starting to think the sub is only six inches in size which actually seems more feasible after me seeing how small the sub was when I looked at the back of it by removing the grating this past weekend.

The stock sub is 8". I have a 8" pioneer sub laying around and its the same size as the stock sub if i hold it up to the underside of the deck.

by center speaker you mean subwoofer?

No, i actually mean center speaker. The car has ten speakers, eight for the front and rear doors and then in the rear is a subwoofer mounted over the trunk and then there is a center speaker on the daskboard.

i have an 8" jl in a box with amp mounted on the back, i had it installed with a breaker switch so if i need it out i just "pull the plug".
i can get a golf bag, trolley and a change of clothes bag in no probs with the sub in
oh and most important.....it sounds mint!!

FML, I never knew that; I replaced everything minus that one. I purchased my alpine center channel for that reason (havent installed).
thanks for letting me know [up]

I made custom spacers so i could use the factory mounting points and yes b7s are 6.5 fron and rear and i completely disagree with the dynamat statement over a good set of components. A good set of components are a phenomenal investment.

Where will it fit? In the original sub mount? In the avant or the sedan?
Is it the TS-SW841D?
Anyone swapped the oem sub for a better one in the original mounts?

Just disconnect the center channel speaker altogether thats what i did in mine with a good set of components and a 4 channel and i will take anyones challenge who says dynamat and stock speakers will sound just as good. 2nd of all you can run 6.5s all the way around since you have to use speaker spacers anyways which is what i am doing. Thirdly it may just be my personal opinion but i would waste my time replacing the stock sub in the rear deck without at the very least modifying the deck to house something better than 1 8" sub.

dynamat helps promote good sound, but it cannot compensate for the awful speakers and the crappy amps in the stock setup. im running an alpine head unit and alpine 6.5" X series components and its such a difference over the stock speakers. And on the b6 you cant really mount the speakers right to the door, you need to get spacers, or as i did, rework the speakers that the car came with and make them into mounts for my speakers.

You will not, iirc, find an aftermarket solution for the sub in the stock location. I believe it is a weird size like 7" or something. It is inmy garage, and I can measure it if needed later. As for the doors, I replaced every one my self, and they are all 6.5". You do need spacers, or you can cut the stock speakers out of their housings and use those as spacers like I did. Cut the entire cone out, then drill the new speakers right into the stock surrounds. works great. There actually is a DIY on here for that, I'll see if I still have the link.

Here's the DIY that shows you haw to use the stock speakers as spacers for your aftermarket speakers.

I have an Audi A4 convertible.
I have contemplated doing the job myself but I have decided to let the sound shop do it. So your best option is to just have the sound shop do it. they will know every size you need. As for me. I'm having a custom box built under my boot with my ski port as the port for the band pass box. And it will fit under the boot for my top. With 2 12 in or 3 10in haven't decided that part yet. I'm also doing all new speakers with an amp and double din stereo. Should be a bad ass system when they are done
