NEW PICS UPDATED

Just a few pics of what I have been workin since getting the avant.

After losing my install of computer and stereo when my 98 A4 got totaled, I am finally getting to work on the new install. Here's some random pics I ended up taking...

Building new fiberglass sub enclosure.

The new faceplate for the carputer - no pics of the front yet. It is installed with the computer behind it in the car right now.

Amps will go in the tire well (on top of the spare - I had to build a false floor that will sit on top of the amps to give clearance)

Here are some more pics of the screen and the computer behind it: (screen bezel doesnt have the finished coat of dye yet tho)

Damn, NICE!! Wanna' make me an enclosure while you're at it? If so, wonder what shipping would be, and would it even make it through shipping? If you'd be willing to 'help me out', PM me!!

Wow that looks sweet. I can't wait to see the finished product of the enclosure. Maybe I will have to put a sub in my avant too. Are you going to run fans in the floor to cool the amps??

ground shipping wouldn't be too insane, great thing about fiberglass is that it's pretty strong and light.

Yeah I shipped my exhaust for about 15 bucks halfway accross the country. So It couldn't be that bad.

I will be running just a couple small 8cm fans, there is lots of room for air flow under the false floor.

yeah it would not cost all that much to ship. The enclosure won;t be all that big either. 1 cu foot is about it.

Depending on my work situation after my apt move (mid dec), I may actually be up for making a couple of these on order if anyone is interested.

Are you going with a 10" sub like the sedan guys that did this? Are you removing the factory sub as well?

Brrman
11-29-2004, 10:33 PM
Yeah I am running a 10" Infinity Perfect 10.1.
The factory sub HAS to come out in order to make room - its held in by three screws (after you get the interior panelling off, which is a bitch)

I have done this in my sedan as well... here is the finished enclosure I had in my 98.4 A4.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that thinks the rear panel is a bitch to get out. I know I tugged and tugged (gently, of course) for quite a while and couldn't see it. I guess I'll have to really get into it if I want to do it. At the time, it was no big deal. Just trying to figure out 'how it's put together'.

Brrman, in my PM, I said I had a 12" sub, but obviously, I'm not above buying another one for my Avant. I can see where space is not at a premium!

BTW, do you have any photos of how the factory sub is mounted, and how it's configured? I know I've searched and searched, and came up empty everywhere I look. I would GREATLY appreciate it if you could snap some picks of where the screws are that hold the panel in and a couple of semi-close up shots of how things look behind the panel. Hope that makes sense...

Nearly 2am, gotta' go to bed... I'll check back in the am...

A4inSC - I will snap some pics of the factory sub in its installed location as soon as I pull the resin form from the car.

do you still have the sedan box?

Brrman
11-30-2004, 06:47 AM
I do but to use it the trunk liner needs slight modification. a pice has to be cut out of the liner for it to fit correctly.

Second carputer is looking good. You were a big help when i was doing mine. Just redid my dash all one peice got to get some pics up soon. I don't want to be you glassing in the car did it once and swore to never do it again. Made a mold the second time for my box out of expandable foam. May want to look into it if your goning to mass produce them.

Brrman
11-30-2004, 12:29 PM
oh definitely - I would not use my car to create other enclosures - just mold it and it will be much easier.

Brrman, could you give me more info on your carputer setup?

Could you point me to a noob FAQ or something? =)

Where did you order the epia board, opus PSU and the xenarc from?

TIA.

I would suggest you visit http://www.mp3car.com
That site will give you a wealth of info - and you can find anything with a search.

the Opus can be found at www.opussolutions.com
the Epia I got on ebay. The xenarc you can get from various sources online (even mp3car.com store has them)...

But really hit mp3car.com and your questions will be answered.

Bryan,
This is Chris Payne, from Columbus,

The car looks awesome! I'm quite impressed with the skillz.

I'd like to see it in person when it's done.

Hope to have mine done sometime soon too.

Heck no! I have a hard enough time getting my stock electronics to work. A 1990 Audi has enough problems with out me creating new ones.

Keith should have the V8 swapped into the Avant and road ready by early March. I hope to take it to Putnam. I just have to source some racing tires and I'm good to go.
