Looks like I'll be joining the ranks pretty soon if all works out.
What does the Navigation unit do in particular? Anything cool? I know that there are two SD slots, and I can put quite a bit of music in there which is too cool (my current car is from the 1900's). How about that DVD slot? Movies? Thanks, and see you guys soon.

Holy crap, that's a huge change. Going from about 8 horses on a Model A or something up to 200. Get a chip and you'd think you were on a space ship...
Oh, and one really cool thing about the nav...it tells you how to get places...

It tells you how to get from point A to point B.
By the way, I eat pho almost once a week. I guess that makes me a winner!

You still need an external dvd player and adaptor though as the RNS-E doesn't have video playback capabilities itself. And from what I understand, using vag-com on the RNS-E simply allows video to play while you're driving otherwise, it will only work if you're parked.
Please correct me if I'm wrong though.

Haha!
And to the guys who think it's as easy as just VAG-coming it to play, it's not. It's pretty expensive to buy all the parts, and you have to take everything apart to do the installation. I looked into it before, and deemed it not worth it [rolleyes].

i use mine for the navi and sd card feature. you can have bluetooth if you buy the unit. cd changer can be hooked up. aux ports can be enabled if you have software 0260. I hate pho!! i eat too much of it.

It's really not that bad. For a decent amount of money you can have this...

...and have control of video playback from your RNS-E.
They have other options as well depending on what you want and how much you want to spend.

Another question - is this unit the 'top of the line'?
Is it Bose?

Not necessarily. Pictured is the RNS-E. If you have Bose, you will have the Bose emblems on the speaker grills on the driver and passenger doors. The Bose system pretty much an amp added to the base unit or the RNS-E, I think.
Winners Eat Pho
05-19-2009, 09:25 PM
That explains it. The one I test drove with Navi sounded quite a bit better. Mine sounds 'ok'.
Is it worth adding the Bose amp, or, just go aftermarket at that point?
FastB7S4
05-19-2009, 09:34 PM
Well, RNS-E alone without Bose will be a huge improvement over the base unit as it has more power. RNS-E with Bose is even better, but not as huge a difference as between base and RNS-E.
If you're looking to upgrade without getting the RNS-E, I would just upgrade speakers and get an amp to power them. The Bose is not all that great from what I hear.

The RNS-E sucks if you want a good navigation device. About the only good thing is that it integrates well. Otherwise, a Garmin or TomTom kill it in nearly every way.
