View Full Version : Anyone put citylights in a NA spec headlight assy?

11-14-2004, 12:56 PM
I really don't have the money to upgrade to e-codes, but I want city lights. Anyone tried to do it? I was wondering if I could just drill a small hole in the high beam, and some how mount a city light bulb in there. I'll be doing clear corner mod and HID install this weekend, so I would also like to add citylights while I have the lense out.

Heres a pic of my old Jetta GLI with citylights....

i think that would be possible, just looking at my ecodes it just looks like a hole in the high beam, then youd just need a bulb, bulb seat, and run wiring from your parking lights... then just put some silicone around the bulb seat to seal it... shouldnt be to tough, i dont think aiming the little bulb is an issue.. be careful drilling, and drill slow

It'd probly look bunk to be honest.

do it, thats the same way we used to install strobes in headlights.

Was that a Rallye Golf headlight setup on your old GLI....looked sweet I always wanted that setup for my GLI.

2pc. I did exactly like you said you want to.

When do the city lights turn on? I just installed my e-codes today and I don't see how you get them to turn on without the headlights on also.

I wired mine to the corner lights..

Well I might try it, I have some citylight bulb holders laying around here somewhere. And yes, that was a rallye golf front end on my GLI, now it's on my GTI.

Get the real thing.

ok dude, not everyone has 400 to spend on headlights... he allready said he didnt have the money...

i dont see why anyone with a 99.5+ would buy ecodes... when you can just clear corner your stock lights...

11-15-2004, 02:16 PM
Because 1 peices ecodes have better projectors, OK Dude.

I don't understand why people drives Audi's and choose to do ghetto things like that, Dude

11-15-2004, 02:29 PM
^^ i agree evil.. my ecodes are amazingly better than stock 1 peice headlights, and they look way cleaner since they are made without an orange reflector, there isnt any holes where the reflector should be. the beam pattern is the best part though, so much better than US spec xenons.

E-codes are the sh*t...just got to drive in the night with them for the first time and the difference is deffinatlly noticable.

11-16-2004, 03:26 AM
Well, I will get ecodes, more so for the beam pattern then the citylights, but I just thought it would be cool to put them on for now. I don't see what the big deal is, im not putting a big ****!ng wing on my car or something.....And theres no way I would do it, if I didn't think I could make it look stock. But thanks for the help.

11-16-2004, 06:59 AM
im going from stock 2piece halogens to ecodes, i just dont see the point if you have stock projectors...

11-16-2004, 09:20 AM
Obviously because you simply don't care about how much better they are. It's not all about the overall look. Performance wise they are better.

11-16-2004, 11:36 AM
You don't have to tell me that, both of my other cars run E-code lights. I know how much better they are. But after dropping 2g's in my GTI, I don't really feel like paying 500 for some lights at this point. And besides, if I were to spend some money on my Audi, it would be suspension over lights away.

Golf Rallye lights.....

Hella DE's for my wifes car.....

I know how much better E-codes are.

BTW I wasn't talking to you.

Oh, I'm sorry then.

I have cities in my DOT housings that I wired up to work as DRL, but go off with the low beams and/or e-brake. Call me crazy (and I know you will) but I like the way the DOT housings look more than the ECE. Also, the cutoff blinds everybody, I get enough light flashes and fingers with the DOT D2S projectors. Do the ECE projectors really spread the light out better or is it just the cutoff angle that is different? Either way I find the DOT projectors are more than sufficient for my taste......

Ecodes are the way to go.

are the projector's different between US and E-codes or just the cutoff shield? Can we change the cutoff shield for the same type of performance?

projectors are different, its a less restrictive lens.

11-19-2004, 01:11 AM
less restrictive because the of the shape of the cutoff shield though right? how else can it be less restrictive?

11-19-2004, 05:16 AM
The cutoff shield is the only restriction.... Or maybe the fluting on the lens? I have clear lenses though, no ribs at all. Makes for a very sharp cutoff.

The actual lenses in the projectors are different aswell. Less ripples in the Euro spec ones.
