Hey guys, got my engine pulled today and took the oil pan off. I had bought the audi spec gasket maker instead of the oil pan gasket. Looks like my engine used the gasket though. Can I use the gasket maker instead?

TIA,
Matt

That gasket maker is meant to be used with the audi oil pan gasket IIRC.

if its the white stuff in the tube, it should work just fine. make sure to only use a thin bead and loop it around the bolt holes. its also reccommended to clean up both mating surfaces with a steel wire brush (circular or cross-hatch pattern) before applying the sealant. after its bolted up, if its globbing out on the outside, it is also globbing on the inside, which runs the risk of coming loose and clogging your oil pickup, so remember less is more. hope this helps. peace.

edit: official pn for oil sump gasket sealant: D 176 404 A2

Remember: A thin bead is all you need.

I replaced my oil pan months ago and there isn't a single leak around it. The oil pan still looks brand new. [:D]
