I just bought an A4 2001 1.8T tiptronic with 111 000 kilometers on it (60 miles) last week from a girl that told me that the timing belt and turbo was change 10 kilometers ago. The car has a custom air intake, a FORGE diverter and a full 3'' turbo-back exhaust when she bought it 3 years ago. At the inspection at my garage, we discover that the new turbo in the car is a GT28... Hehe! She told us that's because she had a really good deal on it. Apparently there`s no chip on this car and the injector are stock. Ok sooo now... i went to my garage today because when i hit boooost at 3000 rpm it`s often shut down at 4500rpm... safe mode we guess or sometimes i just don't have boost at all. The diverter looks ok, we don`t think there`s a boost leak because sometimes it hold boost until 7000 rpm... they told me that`s because i don`t have bigger injector and no chip. I just don`t want destroy the transmission so they suggest me the K04 file with TT injectors... anybody`s here run a Big Turbo on there Tiptronic?!?! If the transmission was very solid i would definitly go with bigger injector and a custom gt28 file. I need your suggestions... Thank you sooo much!!!

lots of people run BT tiptronics, infact, the torque on a gt28 will be more gentle than a k04 would be. most people will reccomend running the proper software for the application, i run a gt2556r on k04 software and the a/f is dead on. since your a 2001 you could always go the diode/lemmiwinks route (which youll need to anyway if you go with k04 software)

if you dont have any software for that turbo, the car is definitely going to run like crap.

All right so i should not be afraid going with a GT28 files... maybe a boost controller after that just to make sure i don't blow something... it`s my daily driver and i want it to be reliable. The GT28 was really a surprise at the inspection! :)

GIAC has tuning for that turbo and a 2001. So does Unitronic, give either of them a call. both have good software

Talk to biketsai for information on a GT28 setup on an auto. He was running that setup for quite a while and his tranny didn't have any issues.

As far as software goes, you could buy my GT28 software & ECU for $599:

Your car is auto or manual?!

Manual. The ECU was originally from an auto. I just re-entered the soft-coding to use it in my manual. Takes two seconds and I could swap it to auto if you would like.

Get the right software and injectors... Get boosted's software and whatever injectors match would set you straight.
