View Full Version : smoke from engine after coilpack and spark plugs

2001 awm 1.8t

i pulled the ignition coil out of the engine and there is oil all in where the spark plugs is. is this normal? what should i do?

Replace your valve cover gasket.

how can i get the oil out and if i cant do it for a couple days will it be ok

It will be fine. Just make sure you get it done sometime soon. It is really easy to do if you are think of DIY.

I used a plastic surenge (spelling?) my wife used for cooking...not anymore [:D]

k i will search on how to do that , but will it ruin my new coil packs n spark plugs in the mean time

This is a common failure on our cars. Get a new valve cover gasket follow the DIY on AudiMods and it will be fine. Clean up the spark plug boots and the night before you replace the gasket, pull the coil packs/spark plug boots (leave the spark plugs in) and put some shop towels in there to soak up the oil. Clean up the rest in the morning before the rest of the install. 45-60 minutes should cover it.

after putting in coil packs and plugs when i started the car alot of smoke came out of the engine, and it sounded like a liquid was sputtering out of somewere . all of the coil packs and spugs are clean

no more smoke and car runs good but now i gotta get one the valve cover gasket
