I have a 97 B5 A4 TQM, and am about to swap the 2 piece stock headlights for one piece and HID

when we say "facelift" and "pre-facelift" what differences are there?

I read one how to where the guy is sawzall-ing sheetmetal off the fenders to fit a pair of friggin headlights!

I don't really understand the differences and what fits -vs- what doesn't[confused]
cheap ebay shit is listed to fit any B5, while LLTek has 2 piece Valeo's for pre-facelift cars (mine) and one piece HID for FACElift cars -not only are they what I want, they cost less and have more options.

searches for "Audi A4 B5" and "facelift" + "pre-facelift" reveals very little.

Would someone please clarify?

If you don't want to cut the fenders like many many members have, then your only options are the 2-pc one's or the one-pc that say they are made for pre-facelift cars.

the difference:

pre-facelift has a lip on the fender that gets in the way of facelift lights - this is what needs to be removed.

There are 1 piece headlights on the market that are designed for the pre-facelift chasis. And ads that say that they will fit 96-2001 are simply wrong. It is not a universal fitment. It is either 96-99 or 99.5-2001.5. The facelift headlights are larger (longer) and fitment issues follow. There are many whom do the 2-peice to one peice conversion.

If you want one peice headlights, you have 2 options. Search for one peice headlamps for the prefacelift, such as this one (devil eyes might be the new thing; 2 people I know of have them on AZ): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DEVIL-EYES-HeadLights-Audi-A4-B5-Daytime-Running-Lights_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q 3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c29 3Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZi tem200258362638QQitemZ200258362638QQptZMotorsQ5fCa rQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories . Or get facelift headlamps, cut the fender to make it fit, then paint over the exposed area to avoid rust.

I would assume so. Those are Fk Devil Eyes and is a good brand name. They have different ones for the facelift and prefacelift, so fitment should not be an issue at all. As for pics, you would have to do a little internet searching and hopefully come across one.

Wait a minute, you have a 2001.5. There are 2 people I know of on AZ whom added those to thier vehicle (I don't know what brand they went with though). One is an A4 (facelift) and the other is a B5 S4.

lol...HAD a 2001.5...now i got an aeb in my garage getting rebuilt...just waiting for the right car...

kyle i saw your post regarding body kits as well...i personally like a few of the body kits however the majority that ive seen they do not sit flush with fender and/or the headlights...let me kno if you have any luck finding one to fit your needs

if i had to choose with pre-facelift two piece and a not so flush one piece...id choose some clean flush 2 pieces

OK, I see the lip you're talking about. Now I would need to grind this off and the facelift 1 pc housings would fit? or is there more to take after the lip?

I also see what you mean with the "Fits 96-01 B5" Bullshit... it can only fit one or the other, right?
I suppose my absolute decision to go for real HID low AND high AND fogs means only Valeos or Depos (glass) right?

Here's a curve also, RS4 front fenders... If I were to go wide, would the RS4 fenders take facelift or pre-facelift lights? I'd expect those to take the facelift type 1pc lights[confused] (perhaps a projector all their own? RS4 does use a different core support) leave it to me to confuse the shit out of myself[headbang]

Chumbawumba, you asked about Bodykits, and here's what I can tell ya about mine:
I bought a VIS body kit. for the price I am extremely happy with the fitment, since I expected major reworking to even get it to fit. -some scribe and trim go-rounds was all it took and I have very good fit for what it is
(and what THAT is is a FRP bodykit -FIBERGLASS, make no mistake, and please don't buy into anyone's sales pitch about how their bumpers can be beaten/jumped on like a trampoline and what have you. Body kits are either Polyurethane or they are FIBERGLASS. I have the cheap-ass latter, and for $200 and change for a complete bodykit, I am not at all afraid to thrash it since a can of tigerhair and a palette of bondo will fix nearly anything I could do to the front, rear or skirts.
where my front coincides with the headlights should be no factor at all, I'm hung up on the fenders RE: my headlight quest

I just got the facelift headlights on my pre-facelift (1998) a4. The trimming was really simple, a monkey with a grinder could do it. Just tape everything off, cover your whole fender and bumper, and go at it. Once you get the 2 piece headlight out you'll see what you need to do. Also, make sure you use a touch up pen on the trimmed part to prevent rust. Also be careful not to trim too much off!
